Dan I don't recall any PROFILE P40s there.  My silver P40 full fuse airplane was there.

Dave

I was hard to tell from the video because it was just a passing shot and it's such a slim fuselage. It was in row 14. I just found a better still photo of it on the PAMPA FB group page and can see that it was a full fuse model, just very slim.  Silver with pre/early WW-2 markings. Is that your model?  Really nice and clean! Did you fly that in Open? Your design?

I got the same advice from Bob, but you still have to do them!

Thanks Doug.  Point taken.  I use the term corner simply to identify the specific maneuvers.

Ted Fancher told me at a stunt clinic. Focus on the straights not the corners.

I would only add that in person, it looks absolutely great. And you can see that this level of building is possible without anything particularly exotic or unusual, just master craftsmanship and attention to detail.

Joe there are plenty of free video programs.  Just make sure they have slow motion and frame advance.  YouTube has slow motion and it is easy to upload especially if you want to share.

As to how to analyze corners.  If it is simply the shape you want the judge's position, but if you want to really see what the plane is doing film from upwind just far enough back to get the whole maneuver and at 90 degrees to the wind with the plane coming at you.  If you are using the judge's position, make the bottom of the frame the pilot's feet.  Most people don't do the second two so let me tell you what it shows me.  The downwind when run in slow motion gives you how the plane is coming out of corners much better than the upwind.  It also helps if you have a windsock in view.  In slow motion you can see control deflection and skid.  The 90 degree is my favorite in diagnosing corners.  You get to see the plane entering the corners and every bit of roll and yaw shows but best of all you see the line rake from the side and what that nasty wrist is up to.  You don't get any of that with the traditional position.  Nothing can replace slow motion for measuring skid.  You either trim it out or learn how to present it like it wasn't there.

Another thing you should do every now and then - a zoom in on you from downwind.  You will see things you swear you weren't doing! :o

I use a product called VLC.  It has slow motion, frame advance and you are able to repeat any segment in a continuous loop which really helps.

I am only addressing the video just make sure you are getting enough to evaluate the plane, the positioning and the pilot.

Good luck - Ken

Oh, one more thing, you don't need service on a smart phone to use the camera.  I have two and one of them is just for pictures.

Paul,
That is one of Patrick's original designs from what I recall.  I saw it up there during Brodak's.  Miss having Patrick around.

I don't know of any serious flier that doesn't build their own including for many even the design.  The exception might be wings blanks, especially foam.  Personally, in 60 years at the "expert" level I have only built two planes where I did not build the wing and both were situations where I needed to get into the air quickly and did not have a shop.  Do I see it a problem, no.  The rules allow a major component to be built by others and still comply.  Nobody should look down on anyone following the rules.
I do it simply because I like building and I want to build the wing.

But just weigh the airplane and the pull test if still 10Gs. So a 10 ounce airplane is 100 ounces. Divide that by 16 and you get 6.25 pounds pull test.10 pound line should be fine

And don't forget a model pull test is pulling on 2 lines, so on the example above each line is only loaded to 3.125 lbs. A safety factor of over 3 for 10# rated Spectra.

I saw a video on FB of the models spread out at the appearance judging and near the start of the video, near the camera, was a profile P-40 model done all in silver. Does anyone know anything about that airplane, who the pilot was, and any other det6ails of the airplane? Thanks in advance!
