   Fellow's I am thinking about trying some Certified dopes from Aircraft Spruce.
 Does any one have experience with this dope, and how do you like it?

All I use now is Randolph dope from an aircraft supply co. in Fort Worth. I do use Brodak's crystal clear for the final clear coats. I also use Dupont 3608S for thinner and it works for nitrate and butyrate.

I checked recently, and Wicks has Randolph dope for significantly less (50-60% the price) as Aircraft Spruce.  You might see if they have Certified as well (or if their prices have gone up).

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

Certified is a good product but they have a limited choice of colors.  Also, their prices used to be lower than Randolph's but are now quite a bit higher. 

I now use Randolph clear for buildup from bare balsa through ready for color, and usually Randolph colored butyrate because they offer a wide selection of colors.  For the final clear topcoats over the colors I use Sig Light-Coat butyrate because it is more fuel-resistant than any other brand I have used.

Hi CB,

I have used acrylic lacquer a LOT ( ton of builders used that when t was more readily available), along with the newer basecoat/clearcoat systems.  Now, I use a lot of Duplicolor acrylic lacquers in the touch up spray can for colors.  It has never caused "me" a compatibility problem with dope.

The automotive urethane 2 part clear is a favorite clear top coat for many, many builders.  Just go light with it as it can get HEAVY real quick,  It is, however pretty fuel proof when cured and VERY shiny.

does laquer thinner work better to clean brushes than just regular paint thinner becuase after my brushes dry they are harder than they should be and coloured a whitish colour after they dry srry for being off topic.

Yes. Cheap lacquer thinner will work for cleaning brushes.

I use acetone for cleaning brushes and spray guns.  It's cheaper than dope thinner and works great.

I sprayed some Aerogloss clear and tried to clean the gun with cheap lacquer thinner.  I got grey jello as a result and had to switch to Aerogloss thinner (all I had at hand) to clean it up. HB~>

I'm not familiar with the current formulation of Aerogloss, however the problem you described above sounds much like you may have gotten hold of some of the new low VOC lacquer thinner.  DuPont labels it V3608S whereas the previous version that would work with dope was 3608S; I don't know what PPG or other brands label theirs.  Using the V3608S will cause dope to jell & turn a grayish color, & you are correct...it won't even work to clean brushes.
