I have tons of other people's airplanes in flight but not too many of mine. Courtesy of Linheart Smith (who posted them here before so I figure it's OK...):

Here's a couple of my SV-11, flown off "Little Lake", a dry lake just off Hwy. 395 in eastern California, just west of Death Valley by maybe 100 miles.  D>K Steve

Linheart was nice enough to send me a series of these sort of pictures from 2006 NATs where I was, um, otherwise occupied.

I mentioned this in a previous thread half-a-decade ago that I was *very* surprised at how close to the ground it was getting vertical, because I was backing off the corners *dramatically* all week, and this one (the entry to the wingover) was *absurdly soft* on purpose. So seeing it at 15 feet and with at least the fuse vertical (if not the track) was surprising to me.

BRETT! STILL LOVE THAT SHOT! REALLY ILLUSTRATES JUST HOW MUCH FLAP N ELEVATOR INPUT WAS SHOWN ON THIS GREAT PHOTO.
I personally would love to see ANY photos or video for that matter  of ANY CLPA model in flight that might illustrate just HOW SHARP A TURN A MODEL CAN TURN FROM LEVEL FLIGHT INTO VERTICAL?

Oh, I got a lot of stuff like that, looking for control deflections. This is a fair amount of control for a hard corner based on looking at a lot of them over the years.

Hi gang,

Nothing too dramatic about this photo of my "T-Rex" ARF (PA 61 on pipe), except I like the unique composition from
low and behind, showing against our Florida sky.   Photo was taken by Eric Viglione, our resident club photographer,
using his big Pentax K20D DSLR camera, which is a beautiful camera.

Brad Walker did a fine jog designing the "T-Rex", as we all know by now, and John Brodak a fine job as well,
producing the plane in ARF form.   And the PA61/pipe.....well, this one runs like a clock, just like all the others
I've observed.

Times are good.

Cheers.

I've taken quite a few of other folks; my favorite is Paul Walker (looking determined).

a great shot from Elwyn of my Merlin at the 2004 worlds.  It was a week of utter nonsense and incredible difficulties but I managed a 15th place.  This was early in the week when during practice a "shoe" flew off during the wingover.  One of my flying buddies brought the wheel and the pant to me in the pits later.  I said "..there was a 1/4 inch 4/40 too, didja find that?"  hahahaha

The landing was interesting too, I had Dave, Brett and Randy all around the circle waiting for the plane to land.  It was windy and I whipped it back to the into wind side and set it down real slow.  Hardly scraped the gear leg....  It was embarrassing to be sure, but my friends made me fell better by teasing me relentlessly....

Did you determine the cause of the break?

This is Rich Oliver's plane on top five day at the 2011 Nats. After his first flight, he did the pull test for his second and that is when the leadout broke. I was standing to the side as Brett and a few others looked at it. To me it looked like it was rubbing the wing mounted gear block inside the wing which caused it to wear out and break. This kinda stuff only happens at the worst possible time.

This was the first of two Sheik's Freedom 45's that I made.  This picture was at VSC XX shortly before its demise in a trimming flight.  The second built for VSC XXI still exists and flies better, but is still a handfull.

Well I certainly didn't take this photo, I'm not even on the same continent. Don't know the model the pilot who took it or even where I got it from so full credit to all concerned in it's creation but it's been my desktop for some time and to me it epitomises controlline.
