im hinging a small foami plane and the instrutions say to hinge from the top with tape after cutting a 45 in the bottom, after doing that i get full up flaps but no dn. because of the tape alowing me to do that.... whats up

I believe that you were supposed to lower the flap into its max down position and pin it in that position prior to attaching the plastic tape.

Back in my RC glider days we only used tape for hinges. Ray has it right bend the control surface away from the tape then attach the tape. I would put the tape on one surface then align with the other and smooth it on.
