Lettering software
« on: October 24, 2012, 07:39:52 PM »
Guys,
Is there a lettering software that can be used to design lettering and numbers that could be load a file onto a flash drive and given to a cutting shop to cut out?

If it is just lettering and numbers any sign shop has an assortment of fonts, just select one and a size and they should be able to help you out.  If you want a special design it could be a different story.  Depending on the cutter/plotter the shop uses, they need a specific type of file, a vector file like .DXF  I use Corel, it is friendly to my cutter/plotter.  Probably the easiest way is to use MS Word, print out what you want and take it to a shop.  They "should" be able to match it.

Guys,
I spent some time playing with MS WORD and different fonts for my El Diablo. It was very interesting looking at the way that the look of the name changed.  What I did was to type out the name several times they highlight them one at a time clicking on different font types available. I found several that gave the look that I liked. Having them in large 36 pt font allows you to get a pretty good idea of what it will look like. Putting them on separate lines lets you compare different looks.

Now that I have an idea what I want to use can I take the font name to a sign shop and get the lettering cut?
