Well, I got away with 3rd place in Huntersville, not as well as I flew in practice, but not bad for my first go at it. I was assigned to fly first at 9:00 this morning. I missed 2nd place by a badly botched landing on the second flight and about 2 points. HB~> I never nose over... but I did landing it in the grass today. My maneuvers were decent and I did get my pattern points on both flights. The engine runs were good. I bought a gallon of Powermaster 10/22 and the Thunder Tiger seemed to really love it. Perfect power through the whole routine.

So I'll be winding this thread down as I graduate to my Skyray and a Clown-like plane designed by Watt Moore, who may be familiar to those of you who have been around this region. In addition to those planes, I came away with 5 stunt engines, 2 OS FP .35s, an Enya .35, and an OS FP40, all given to me by Ray Copeland... and a cool trophy and a Philly Flyers decal for my car window too!

Many thanks to all of you who had the patience to nurse me through my retarded learning curve. I really appreciate all the input from you guys.

That is great that you got your flights in.   Sounds like you had a good time and what a bargain on engines.

Congrats on your third place finish. It was nice to meet you this weekend. Keep up the good work and you will be in Intermediate before you know it.

Thanks Derek.
Meeting and talking with everyone was so much fun for three days, it's just indescribable. I talked so much my voice was gone by Saturday night. It's starting to come back now, but the buzz lives on. My wife loved it too, I'm happy to report. This was new to her as well. She got hooked on Combat. She parked herself between Combat and Carrier where she could watch both, and I could hardly peel her away. She made sure to introduce me to interesting people she found and I did visa versa. I still can't get her to try turning a lap though.

See y'all at the next one, definitely at the Joe Nall.

Sounds like another Linda Bob Gleason in the making.   Dale Gleason has this wife of his that is from one end of the contest site to the other.  Even at the NATS she is all over the place keeping the DMAA members going and where they are supposed to be at what time.  She also makes terrific brownies.   Andy Bogona(spelling) also has a wife that is terrific with helping with model planes and makes great cookies.  There are several others that I can't remember right now except for Brenda Schuette that is now and has been our Control Line NATS Manager.  So hang onto that wife of yours.

Haha, I definitely will, she's a darlin'. We actually bought brownie ingredients so she could bring some, but time got the best of us. Maybe next year, because she's decided this is fun as heck. She was so impressed with how every one participating on every level was so easy going and welcoming of each others' efforts, and so helpful and interested in me and the other first timers. And how excessive competitive animosity was non existent. She loved how the combat guys laugh and talk while they're trying to "kill" each other. How someone would help the more feeble of our older guys stay on their feet in the circle. Our people in this hobby make up a refreshing and unique culture that exists in today's selfish and uptight world. That's something to be proud of.
