T-shirts should be compulsary!!!
« on: July 02, 2008, 02:13:25 PM »
To help Sparky out - it should be ocmpulsary for everybody that posts here to buy a T-shirt every year - call it a membership fee or what not - $25 for a year is a pretty sweet deal to keep a site like this up and running.

Will probably catch flack for this - but hey!

As Sparky said - we are really like a club - so why not support it like we are?

For us that don't where T-shirts because of sunburn possibilty, how about a sew on emblem for the back of a shirt?  I guess I could buy a T-shirt and have the wife make an emblem out of it.  watch out grey matter is working I think.  DOC Holliday

Hi Wynn - I'm sure you mean well, but why make them compulsory? It wont help Robert support the forum, he already said he makes nothing on them, and does it because they make us feel like a group and they look cool when everyone shows up at contests wearing them.

If your going to make something that costs money compulsory, at least it should have a monetary benefit for Robert. Sounds like the shirts just generate more work for him to manage. Even if bought in large quantity, the profit wont  be as much as he probably gets now in donations. I bet mandatory Tshirts would actually hurt the forum, because then many would stop donating because they would feel the Tshirt purchase was enough.

I'll just keep sending my donations every year, I don't need a shirt in return,
Thanks for the forum Robert!

I plan to donate enough each year to more than cover the price of a tee shirt, but I don't need the tee shirt. As some of you know I always wear blue bib overalls. A tee shirt is just not "dressy" enough.

I am merely suggesting that supporting this forum is something everyone should do - not that we should all buy t-shirts - that was just an example.

some people donate (me included when I can) but others dont

It would be good if everybody contributed is all I meant

Although "well Intentioned", making contributions in ANY form mandatory will lose you some participants.

Look at the economic situation around you. Some can give and some cannot...and it's not necessarily the same people each year. Some do contract work, some have temporary jobs, some of us are retired. Many have good years and bad years.

I think it is up to the individual to determine if they can participate. Let your consience be your guide.

Oh yeah, and some people don't like T-shirts with stuff written on them.  :o

Am embroidered *Emblem* is an idea.  I think I will contact the Sparkster about that.  I *might* can get some made locally, and the proceeds WOULD go to Robert to keep this place afloat.

That is what I would especially go for is and emblem to sew on a shirt I can wear.  DOC Holliday

I agree that not all can go along with this idea.  Any year I have any unusual expense of any kind, from a new roof on the house, to a transmission repair on the car, I am going to have trouble that year with ordinary living expenses, since my income is not the best (several years of part time work near the end of working killed the monthly total from Social Security).

I do wear T-shirts with ads on them, and shorts nearly year round, and I do know I'd be better off with long sleeves, with my pale Anglo-Scots skin, but most any such are either restrictive or too darn hot for Texas when the sun is bright.  When on the water fishing (rarely any more), I wear special (Magellan) clothing because of the multiplication type factor of reflected light reaching areas that may not get adequate lotion-protection.
