Had not used Silkspan or silk since 1975. Always covered Combat, R/C, etc. with Monokote, Solarfilm(remember, best stuff around curves, wing tips?), EconoKote (JUNK) and Coverite(ULTRA JUNK). However, wanted to try Polyspan. Was doing an order for Brodak's a couple of years ago and decided to order their shrinkable covering cloth (Item#BH-918). It sat within my stuff forever. Decided to use it on a F-8 for Carrier this season. If I screwed it, it was a Carrier ship and it was an old Carrier ship
WELL.. I LOVE THE STUFF!!!!
It doesn't need anything new to use!!! It feels like someone's heavy pantyhose and goes on just like silk. Put 2 coats of Nitrate, sand it lightly to take care of the stickies, cut the panel to the size (1/4 in over) and apply more Nitrate. Rub with fingers to stick and stretch. Use iron on medium heat to vulcanize the Nitrate and smooth out any wrinkles that may have developed. Once dried, USE BLOW DRIER OR MONOKOTE gun and is as perfect as can be!!! I am in awe.
I do not know if anyone has used this covering, never found it mentioned on this site, but it deserves an A+!
