Bob, I'll give you the best tip I can and it originally came to me from Eddy R. That is to wipe the plane dry of oil as best you can with soft blue shop paper towels BEFORE you spray any cleaner on the plane, otherwise you just push the oil around and it takes twice as much time and work to get it clean. Once you have the plane wiped down, use the cleaner of your choice. I've used everything from windex to concoctions of windex and fantastic, 409, mr clean, etc, and most worked fine for me, but keep in mind I use Klasskote and urethane clear which is mostly impervious to anything.
