Finished putting the finishing touches on my new F1 airplane. When I decided to paint it as the 2023 Ferrari SF23, I was hoping they would have more success than how the F1 season is playing out…oh well.
In any case, my goal for this airplane was to build it 5oz lighter than its sister I’ve flown for the last couple of years. I shattered that goal and have an airplane 10oz lighter than the other airplane. Some other changes I made to the airplane are:
- Deeper fuselage for more side area
- Less overhang on the rudder aft of the elevators. The other airplane is very long, barely fits in the car and I have a feeling it doesn’t make the straight legs look as straight because it’s so long.
- full span flaps with a trim tab on the inboard wing, much like Dave’s Thundergazer. This gives me 4 square inches more flap area on the outboard wing. The other plane has a 2 square inch area tab on the outboard flap and it helped a lot!
- smaller rudder, for looks, weight reduction and to keep it from weathervaning as bad in the wind
Some more technical bits:
Span: 63”
Wing area: 690 squares
Tail area: 30%
Power: PA 75
Prop: Eather 13-4.1 three blade
Weight: 62oz!
First flights coming soon
