There could be some irony there.  We'll see on the morrow.

I just want to say congratulations to you Howard on your 11th place in that, I know you got that plane going at the very last possible moment. Amazing job to shake down a new stunter AND a new powerplant and place that high. Your plane must fly amazingly well.

A great big thanks to Dave & Howard for the reports.
Reporters like these guys need a "Smokin Hot Weather Girl" to round out the crew!

Allan,
I believe that Steve Moon had a 4 stroke. I don't know of any others.

I hope that Paul Winter will write an article in Stunt News on his how he applied his paint job. I don't know whether he personally air brushed or used stencils or????

This would be a great and informative article.

I wonder if he got the 56 Alpha to finally work. If he did, that would be amazing.

Congrats to the top 5 and Eric Taylor for winning advanced. They all flew extremely well!

The Matrix was not up to the challenge. The Rain and 18+mph wind was too much for it.  :'(

I guess I will have to build something new for next year...

Derek

That's too bad Derek. I was rooting for you! Hopefully next year you will have a choice between two good airplanes!

Congrats to Eric Taylor. He's been working up to this for some time.

Good luck to the top 5 tomorrow. I hope the weather makes it a flying contest rather than the luck of the draw.

Congrats to that "Arkansas Boy" Jason Greer, for his second place finish in Advanced. His electric, mono-kote Geo is an awesome "home built" piece of art. You have brought honor to the "Model Aviators of South Arkansas."

Norm,
You beat me to it!  Yes, contrats to Jason Greer on his second place finish in Advanced.  looks like the Geo wing is a winner.  I think Paul is flying one too.  I guess we all ought to start building these wings judging how well they perform in bad conditions.

Howard,
I should have known.  I read somehwere that Paul W is using a Geo wing on his new stunter.  Would that make it an Impact wing?

The best is when the pipe heat steams open all the joints around the tunnel, and lets oil in. That's why my current airplane is mostly not NATs-worthy any more.

   Brett

What if you lined the pipe tunnel with alum. tape to reflect the heat?

On the AMA Nats News page (on the AMA site) a pic of Pauls new bird clearly shows a Geo RIB arrangement. But I would venture to bet that airfoil/s are Impact.

Its just the build style that would be Geodetic.

Reminds me of the old Jetex days.
Lining the bottom of the fuse with foil to keep the Jetex exhaust from setting fire to the stick and tissue/dope finish.

Ah the good ol' days

Mine is already that way The problem is steam forming in the tunnel when it rains.

Good morning and Welcome to this webcast of the 2012 U.S. Nationals Open Precision Aerobatics Finals from the famous L Pad in Muncie, Indiana.  Unlike the previous two weeks weather today will be perfect.  The fliers are now taking warm up flights while the judges are in final preparation for the day's work-and surely they have.  It's been brutal on this team including tabulators, runners and all involved who make this all come together.  Many thanks to all.  I see the seniors are warming up on 1.  Gavin Barry is our sole Junior this year.  We must ALL try to do soething about that.

The Finals format will be as follows:  All fliers will be flying before the same judges on circle 4.  There are three rounds flown rather than the two used for qualification rounds.  The pilots drew for flight order last evening.  Round one will be:

Walker
Moon
Hunt
Rich
Minato

Round 2

Rich
Walker
Minato
Hunt
Moon

Round 3

Hunt
Rich
Minato
Moon
Walker

And Walker is flying.  ( Got fooled,  circle 3 is the active circle.  Warm ups for judges was on 4). The new Impact is typical Paul. Snappy.  Looks great as always.
