Flying at new circle
« on: January 19, 2015, 04:43:12 PM »
Met Dave Trible at the field today.   He was already on the circle.   Temps in the 60'sF, shirt sleeve weather.  Got a very, very short flight on the Ringmaster Canard.  Flies like it is extremely tail heavy.   Second flight shorter lines and different handle.   Was still very sensitive and before the fuel ran out the wind caught it.  It will be put back together.   On Dave's last flight I think the turbulent wind almost got him.     I did get the old reliable Ringmaster up for some loops and eights on down wind side.   Wind was very unpredictable.   As I told Dave as I was leaving,  I have now flown more than I did this time last year.

First pics Dave getting ready to fly.   Then the broken canard.  Dave's Firecat with McCoy .35 Redhead for power.   Last is Dave running another engine of collection.   Love the sound of those old Foxes.

How nice it was to get out and get a few flights.  First since early November for me.  I added a few pics of Doc with the canard and Ringmaster.  The canard somehow makes me think of the Wright Flyer as it goes by.

Thanks for the pics Dave.  If you think it looks strange from out side the circle, you should be in the middle flying the canard.  Have it in the shop now cleaning for repairs.   Was in back yard breaking in another Brodak .25.  It was fun getting out yesterday.  Again thanks for the pics.

Bill I understand.  Our cr&## weather is coming back.  Just a reprieve for a day to check how rusty you are.  Better days ahead.  I figure 6-7 weeks and we'll be able to start getting out every week or two for a flyable day.  Until then we might be in for a blizzard or two.

February is known for deep snows and low temps.   Of course last time I did crossing duty it wasn't that bad.  Can't believe it has been almost two years since I gave up that job.  Once we get into March things should clear up except for maybe some wind.   Have some combat wings for that though.

Hey Shug, the beard comes off a little today if I make it to the barber.   The wife says it needs to be shorter.  The canard is almost back together.

Hey Dave,John

Looks pretty good. Didn't know the place was usable yet. Any grass out there? Looks like plenty of room. I'll have to get the co-ordinance from you again and get the KC guy's updated. There's been some interest at the club meetings to revisit a C/L day event at Jacomo field this year. We also have a C/L'er dude that has build a manicured grass circle on his plantation east of Lee's Summit I need to investigate. Still to far to drive (because I'm just a complainer) but it better than nuthin. Good weather I'll get with Jim so we can come out to Trible international and at least claim some private pit area with our foot prints and see how we can contribute.

For a field that was only mowed twice a year if it needed it or not I think Dave has gotten it in pretty good shape with Kevin's help.   Right now don't bring out your NATS plane to fly as it is rough in places.   One side is pretty decent though even though I like to take off on up wind side of the circle.   Dave still does down wind side.   And Shug the hair is gone but I still have the beard.   The wife says it needs trimming.   I told I would think about it.
