film archive of model flying
« on: April 03, 2013, 11:34:24 AM »
In between dodging lightning bolts and being sick with chocolate over the w/end I was veiwing old films of model flying of days gone by, This site, (Pathe news)  is a real joy, stuff from the 30s 40s and 50s of c/l, f/f, and r/c (some of the r/c looks very much out of control!) theres one clip where a large radio model is launched from a motorway! Its insane stuff,, hope I can bring up the link ;    http://www.britishpathe.com/search/query/model+aircraft

Forgot to say, you need to put in different search names in the search box like, model planes, model flying, flying models ,etc to keep picking up short clips, The ridiculously 'plumby English' commentary adds to the hilarity of it all... Phil

I'm always surprised by how bad some of these old free-flight models flew on launch. Maybe they only show the bad ones, but it seems like an awful lot of them roll left or right and splat into the ground.
