Father-in-law John was in the first wave on Omaha beach. My father Allen Sr. was in the Marines at Pearl Harbor,( aeronautical photographer on F4U's and P-38's) and took the picture's of the surrender at Wake and the pictures of the surrender on "Big Mo". (mom has the 1st print origanal of those pictures). My uncle Harry was a gunner on the B-17 Hells Angles (second to get 25 missions) and I served in Vietnam 65-66 with the Big Red 1. 155 & eight inch howitzer. Very proud to have served, and proud of the guys and gals who serve today.

Larry,

Where were you on C-130's?  I was at Dyess from 79-84.  I flew some control line with a fellow there for awhile.

Hickam AFB 1965 - 1968
Flew first control line there - Scientific P-40 and designed my first plane there too.  Well it was more of a push-pull car as it did not fly.

Hello Ty,
Thanks for the reply - many of our modelers were in the AM program on the north side, one was Daune Kassa, the 1958 senior B speed champ and he taught me a lot.  What great times those were and what a great groundwork it laid for future times!
Blessings,
Will

What Is A Veteran?
A "Veteran" -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to, and including his life."

Served in Vietnam 1967-1968 based at Army air base Camp Holloway, Pleiku (Central Highlands)
119th Assault Helicopter Company (Crocs UH-1C gunships and Gators UH-1H slicks)
MOS(military occupation specialty) 67N2F: UH-1 Huey helicopter Crew chief/Door gunner
Combat Highlights:
(1) Battle for Hill 875. Flew in reinforcements/ammo/water for surrounded 173rd Airborne troops and pulled out wounded/dying/dead.
(2) Ho Chi Min Trail in Laos/Cambodia. Inserted and pulled out LRRPs (long range reconnaissance patrols) who called in B52 bomber strikes on hidden NVA convoys. Our company lost more choppers/men in the 2 months doing this than in 10 months in Vietnam.
(3) Tet Offensive. Started on my birthday. The NVA really didn't have to throw me such a big party with so many fireworks!

Ty.  NSA has always been out in the open, more or less.  You might be thinking of those nice folks at
Central Intel. (CIA).  I worked for the CIA as a civilian, and I happen to be one of the very few with a Commendation letter from CIA!  (that doesn't happen very often!)

As a side note to my service, in Korea (Camp Casey)  is where I was re-introduced to C/L flying. Didn't have much time to build but managed to put together a Midwest ME-109 there. Still have the Enya .35 5224 it that was in it. Plane left in country. Flew on a ball diamond outside of the craft shop. 8)

Well, Clancy was in there before me, but I had the requisite two year stint from Aug 1961-Aug 1963.  US Army Corps of Engineers, MOS Refrigeration Specialist.  Stationed in Presidio of San Francisco, ASCOM City, Korea and Korat, Thailand.  Flew a Flite Streak with an OS 35 Max III in Korea on home brewed FAI fuel, with ingredients bought from locals!  It ran....and I didn't ask any more questions.

I don't normally come in on political discussions, (and this is really more about people than politics) but I don't think I've ever seen this better put.
My appreciation and thanks to the guys who do and have done this job on our behalf.

I have finally got around to trying to catch up on the forum.  I have to thank all the gentlemen and ladies that have served.  Some had horror stories and some had good stories.   It was hard watching my friends and class mates going off to do their tour of duty.  I spent two days at the Armed Forces  Building in Kansas City MISSOURI taking tests, being poked at and then told to go back to the farm.  It was a downer as I was trying the Army and the guy behind the desk said I was 4F and not to try any of the other branches.   Again my hats off to those who have served' H^^ H^^
