Baby El Diablo ?
« on: August 02, 2011, 01:31:03 PM »
I remember a while back seeing a picture of a shrunken version of Red Reinhardt's El Diablo and being a fellow Jersey Boy I was thinking it might be a good place for my AP Wasp to roost but I havent seen any thing on it lately. Just wondering T.J.

TJ,

I'm afraid that I have been the holdup. When Norval stopped production, the project went on the back burner. There are other large priorities at this time. The Cad plans are about 75% complete. With the engines now available it will be considered again. Wayne designed a neat little airplane.

 TJ,

If you do a search here for "Li'l Diablo" you should be able to find more pics and info about the design. It is a great flyer with a Norvel .061 too. y1

Wow!
Anyone know when that article appeared in the magazine?
I built my first El Diablo...when I was a kiddie at Woodrow Jr. High School in SE DesMoines Iowa...waaay back in the early 50's.
Can't remember when that magazine arrived with that article...but I just knew I had to build it for my old Forster 29?

By the way...GREAT LOOKING PHOTOS OF A BEAUTIFUL LITTLE EL DIABLO "The Devil"

I think Schultzie is talking about Red's original, Model Airplane News, March '52.

Yes..
My grandmother who was a hard line fundamentalist told me...that she knew I would crash and burn this model...simply because IT WAS NAMED AFTER THE DEVIL!!!

I was a newbee young modeler who had just started flying U control over at the Jr. High School.
My grandmother who thought I was going to the Devil was not too surprized that  after about a half dozen flights...I crashed that model into a softball field backstop.  I  had a bad habit of backing up and wandering all over the field in order to keep the lines tight.
Now that I think about it...that BAD HABIT...REMAINED WITH ME FOR MANY YEARS TO FOLLOW? LL~

(Speaking of BAD HABITS...I kept flying Ukies' ever since...plus I can still hear my beloved grandmothers remarks when I would come home very very late..after taking my high school girl friends home after a date or times when my dance band buddies and I would drive out to the beach with our ladies to "WATCH THE SUBMARINE RACES!"
