3 POVs...Control Line Stunt Flight Prowler
« on: July 23, 2014, 07:11:55 AM »
I bought myself a Mobius Action Camera and strapped it on my control line Prowler stunt plane to get some Point Of View shots I've been wanting to see. The view from the wing to pilot was the one I was curios about. I liked it.
Just another reason to get out to fly and practice.
Still working on the Beginner Pattern but also trying to learn and commit to doing the whole Stunt Pattern as well.
Thankee for watching my fun,
Shug

What perspective you've given to us on the stunt pattern.   Now I know why I don't fly the real planes in aerobatics.   Best one yet and I can see all the flying and video taping has helped you a bunch.  Told the wife AI may have to drive up and visit you guys some time.

It was cool to watch...made me wonder how tiny people would feel if they were flying in our stunt planes. They would be dizzy as heck and puking violently after every flight!  n~

I was also thinking that ol' Shug is being distracted from the first order of business by all this technology. Get that stuff off the planes and get back to serious practise!!!! Sean, I think you've got the ability to go far and very quickly...I'd like to see you get there before they send me off to the home.  H^^ Steve

Thanks. I was pleased with the footage.

I just got that Mobius camera so was excited to try it out.

It was fun to view when I got home. I liked the wingover views the best. Yes...hope you do come fly with us sometime.

outstanding. what a great idea shug. thanks!

Been wanting to get the wingtip to pilot view for a while now. Saw a Japanese flyer do that on a video and wanted to replicate that.

I have been wanting to get those shots. I always video practice flights and did some. Still working at it!
Thanks for the stunt support......I have a 3 year plan to try and get reasonably good. Not NATS aerial but just a good stunt pilot.

I too was surprised at how little it seemed to move. Going to try some better angles on that. Thanks.

Was talking to Gary Letsinger the other day about control deflections. As a retired Boeing Aero Engr., he said 30 deg. was optimum for max lift (i.e., flaps)...but we don't get nearly that far. This, he says, means that we should move the CG forward until we have to input 30 deg. flap and get maximum lift.

I wouldn't argue the point, but not many can build an existing design and have it come out "too noseheavy" for current standards, much less come out nose heavy enough to require that kind of control deflections. The thing is, we don't have servos or hydraulics to run the controls. They're run entirely off of line tension. We know what happens when we use up all our line tension and have none left.  :-[ Steve

That was way kewl Shug!

My favorite part was the landing. Quite like a fancy feast stove.  LL~

Nice how you parked right in front of the camera.

Can you show how you mounted the camera on the wing?

Liked that landing  too...and wing overs.
I velcroed it to the wing tip and then secured it with rubber band.
Worked real good.

We flew tonight and I got through the full pattern for the first time.... twice with the Mustang. More or less. I feel so good to get that done. Tried with the Prowler but dogging out on me by the Vertical 8. Fuel low and engine wants to cut out. May try muffler pressure to see it it helps. Always something.

Hey Shug, forget what the individual said about ditching your electronic stuff, the cameras.   You are having fun, I can see that in the videos.   Do you really want to get serious about this stuff as I have been there and done that.   I am not the person you want to be around when I get serious like I used to, just ask my son or any of the people that know me.   The standing order on my part is if someone sees me getting serious and not having fun, they are to put the boot to my back side.  Yes I have  my ups and down.   Any way keep having fun and doing what you enjoy as right now watching the videos you have me beat as far as doing the pattern like most judges like it. What a riot!  Now strap that camera to a Bi-Slob.  You'll have everyone puking!

Better yet, loan your camera to Danny Banjock so he can strap it to his jet stunter.

or you can be super cool and slap a four stroke on it.  >:D
but in all fairness, all of the two stroke stuff i ran was on muffler pressure. once i did that, no more run issues ever! perhaps the muffler pressure is more beginner friendly so you can focus on the pattern, and not stress over the engine.

Man those four strokes are great. Have one on the Mustang given to me to fly by Keith Sandberg. Nice lap times and although it does not sound like it...it is powerful.

Oh now I see someone in this thread already mentioned the minute amount of elevator movement before I posted it on your Tube channel. Even though I've been repeatedly told about this, I've continued to build 30 degrees or more into my models, and that's clearly way overdoing it except maybe for those emergency panic pullouts. Your video was educational for me to watch, and explains why my plane complains so badly when I bang the energy draining corners in my squares. I still haven't gotten past that yet. Thanks for the lesson.

I my self would stay with the 30 degree or more surface movement.   Look at how far your hand moves to get that little movement.  If you had that 15 degree movement I think level would be hard to do.   Look at how the old VooDoo and other combat wings turned with the 15 degree max movement.   Infact my International Stunt Winner has almost 50 degree movement max, but I don't have to move my hand/wrist so far.
