Agreed 100%.

My wife works in surgery at a major hospital. She told me tonight that they are canceling almost all elective cases. Running short on masks, gloves, etc. one reason on the gloves is that a major medical supplier had a big wharehouse wiped out in that recent tornado. Rather bad timing there.

I went to the store tonight. No panic buying, just a few things we simply need anyway.  I've never seen store shelves look like this!  Ever!   Nothing left on the bread aisle at all. No soup, no star, virtually no vegetables, low on burger, cheese, hotdogs, breakfast cereal and the list goes on. Absolutely unprecedented in my nearly 57 years.

Our socialist governor is talking about mandating the closing of all dine-in restaurants. He has closed all schools until 4/24. He has even been rumored to be discussing closing the state borders.

Liberals at their finest. Make people afraid, trap them, threaten with arrest if you don't comply, limit their food and healthcare, then enact sweeping legislation to "save" them from it all.

This should be fun.

Panicking and running around like chickens with our heads cut off, and encouraging others to do the same , is the *very worst thing you could possibly do*.

Amen to That Brother!! Taiwan is doing incredibly well with their Covid 19 program because they didn't panic, and instituted their already in place protocols from the SARS program. Strategy and intelligence- not politics!!

It's worse than that. It's not about winning this election, it's getting people comfortable with, or even demand, strong government control of individual lives (in the name of "safety") and to show that the health care system (that they have systematically destroyed) must be replaced with socialized medicine. They have to spin up a panic, and then they can swoop in as your saviors. They even got churches closed! This situation is a leftist wet dream, expect them to play it to the very hilt. It won't be long before cable news puts up a "death toll counter" in the corners of the screens.

I have seen, already, sly suggestions that, you know, people are putting out less CO2, more people are getting exercise by riding a bike instead of the subway, so maybe this is not so bad. Expect calls for this as the "new normal" - and already, people are talking about being on effective lockdown for 2 years or more.

The is their fondest dream come true!

SARS, Legionnaires, Ebola, West Nile Fever, AIDS...not to mention Cholera, Scarlet Fever, Black Plague and the Great Influenza of 1919 (that killed my Grandfather at 36 years old)….yet humans are still here...more than enough, in fact. No reason for an Alien Invasion from Mars

Meanwhile, take care of yourselves. Have a beer. There has been some useful self-diagnosis tips provided from Japan and Taiwan.

1) They say to take a deep breath and hold for 10+ seconds...if you can, you're good. If not, then your lungs may be compromised, so go to the ER.
B) If your mouth is dry...be wary, it can be an early symptom. Drink a lot of fluids (that's where the beer comes in!), but keep track of dry mouth symptom and repeat #1.  If you wait too long to go to the ER, your lungs are toast.

I'd still like to know what they do in the hospital to stop this virus, since antibiotics are not supposed to work on viruses. But Tom Hanks and his squeeze have been released from hospital, so they must have something that works. Look for medical insurance to cost more.

The CIAM (modelling side of FAI) has already sent out a warning that a lot of events may be cancelled or delayed (months) start, and to keep up on the status as you make travel plans.

SARS,

That's a good compare/contrast example. SARS was much worse in terms of death rate than Wuhan (which is actually a variant on SARS) and yet we managed to not shred the constitution and destroy 75% of the country while it was around. But, when it came around, Obama was the president and the democrats ran everything. Now, a similar situation arises with Trump in charge, and every little Hitler in the country immediately leaps to the most draconian totalitarian measures.

We haven't seen the total number of cases accurately because (like with SARS) we don't have a lot of testing going on, and it's certain that many, many more people have had it or been exposed than we currently know about, almost all of which have recovered, and may never have even known they were sick. A cold has gone around for about a month and a half, just like they come around every winter. Wuhan? Who knows. Several people at work have tested positive and were sent home, a few people went home because of contact.  No one else appears to have had an issue.

We are going to get exempted from the "shelter in place" because we are launching a spacecraft next week. The Space Force isn't shutting itself down, we have a contract that says we are a program critical to national security, so until/unless the Space Force calls it off, we are going.
