I've met Brett Buck once, and I can recognize him by the back of his head.  This is really sad.

The problem with electric is that once you get the smoke generator and sound system installed, the plane is too heavy.

After the pilots meeting about a dozen of us hit Pizza King then made our way back to the field.  After the deluge the wind stayed up the rest of the evening so very little happened.  Due to the added water ( the pond in front of AMA headquarters is out of its banks and very nearly over flooding the road) the choice was made to hold old time and classic on the LPad using two circles and leaving two for Open practice.  With pop up showers in the forecast it could be a long day getting two rounds in but it's far better than the quagmire in the grass.

I uploaded a bunch of pictures from appearance judging to facebook and I made the album public.  Here is the link to it for those who want to look at most of the airplanes.  There were four 19 point airplanes, which included Paul Walker's Predator, Gene Martine's SV-11, Kaz Minato's Hellcat, and Todd Lee's Spitfire.

I'm sorry, but the subject of this thread had drifted over to the appearance judging because of the pictures posted and the replies about those so Charles posted a very natural question.  Sorry, Mr. Trostle, but your arrogance is out of line.  Lighten up and at least try to be decent to this poster.  I have observed that he could probably post a compliment to you and you would jump on him even for that.

Will,
The appearance judging is part of the Nationals which is the subject of this thread.  Rules about appearance judging are not.
Charles if you want to know about the incident in question you can start another thread and I will be happy to tell you about it as I'm sure Keith probably will to.

Enough said...back to the NATS subject!

I've already been given the 411 on that issue. Info travels fast.

I took a look at the other five pages of the Thread. Lots of unrelated Posts.

I just believe a Warbird looks out of place all shined up and polished.

If there's an issue with topic, we do have Moderators.

Sorry Randy, but I disagree with you.  Appearance judging IS part of the nats.  Rules weren't mentioned, and I feel it was a very natural question for someone not in the know to ask.
Seeing those beautiful planes at the 180 building is the premier event to many who may, or may not be there for the first time; and it is quite a spectacle. (sp?)  Thus, part of the nats that needs to be highlighted, at least in my opinion and definitely involves appearance points.
For any who may be interested, one year I flew my (very) old Ephesian and had my verry own row there!  Yup, it was about 4 feet behind EVERYONE else.  I think I got 8 points! HB~> LL~

Doug Moon, Orestes, and Brett you call light?

There's 11 in A, 16 in B, 17 each in C and D.  With 61 entrants, why aren't there three groups with 15 and one with 16?

I'm not going to get into the whole "this is tilted toward <insert image of your paranoia here>" -- because it's obviously tilted toward people who actually showed up as opposed to, say, me.  But I am curious why the quantities are not more evenly spread between groups.

Steve is sure right.  The best practice flight weather today was David Fitzgerald doing the training flight for the judges at 7:00 am.  Went down hill from there.  To help with the circle grouping questions one should know these are the advanced and open flyers mixed.  There are exactly 11 open class flyers on each circle- balanced unlike a time or two in the past.

To my amazement nobody has mentioned that old time and classic were flown today.  I was busy (judging) so didn't get pics.  The second round was especially brutal in the wind with most passing.  Dan Banjock earned his salary this week with a heroic flight in a hurricane with his Galloping Comedian to finish the flying today.
Bill Werwage won Classic
Mike McHenry won Old Time
Perhaps others can fill in more details.

I made a remark to Brett that never could I have imagined I would be judging a flight on the LPad of Bill Werwage flying an Ares-  he told me not to let it go to my head.... Don't think I did..  Was spectacular tho.

Sorry, Jose.  I misunderstood your question.  The reason for the difference in numbers is that Open is on four circles, and Advanced is on three.  I think there are 11 Open guys on each group.  There are 5 Advanced guys in group B, and 6 in C and D.

Bob McDonald and Howard did a super job with the pilots meeting, it seemed to go much faster than some past years.

Howard. What effect did the elimination of Expert, have on the number of Advance entries, compared to 2014.
Any increase.?

I think it's about the same.  This thread contains a plot of Advanced and Expert attendance over the years: http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,38594.0.html

My thanks to Keith Trostle for sponsoring trophies for OTS and Howard Rush for sponsoring trophies for Classic. I got a couple of 3rd places today which the grandkids promptly confiscated.

Keith & Howard, you are sincerely appreciated by this Grinch.

Congrats on your 3rd places today. I really enjoyed watching your old time plane. It was very impressive! I will try to post some of the pictures I took of it later if I get the time to resize them.
