Paul I do have unlimited data and LTE so even better. However I've never done the live video. I'll try to educate myself some on it and we'll see. Would prefer to do that on something other than my 5S.
Just don't drink the water...
My grandfather and I are going to be arriving next Saturday! What I am going to try and do is upload at least one video to Youtube each night of somebody flying. No promises but I'll do my best.
Can't wait to get there!! #^
For the first time since 1983, I am entered...! HH%%
Dennis,
1983?? 1883??? Has it been that long??
We got the lights,
We got the bling.
The Northwest posse's
The next big thing.
From the dearth of pre-Nats banter here, you wouldn't think anybody's going. Maybe people are put off by the drying up of the vortex generator supply. I'll go, but I might not take my good airplane.
I apologize for my lack of pre nats trash talk this year, I just have too many things going on.
Yes, I did find that rather lacking, really not up to standards at all. You can make up for it by being super-obnoxious from here on, however.
Brett
Gee thanks Brett. You have given him a great idea!
That's OK, he's just a young pup. Unlike Matt and Chris.....they seem to have respect for their elders.
I know one thing, Layla will not be drawing my flight order this year!!!!Hey Derek if you'd like Ben can draw for you LL~.
Derek
What are ya, YELLOW.
Hey Derek if you'd like Ben can draw for you LL~.
James
Well down here it is pronounced yeller, and no I am not. I just try not to make the same mistake twice...
Derek
Yeah, I know. No one calls you "yeller".
However, if you are afraid of Layla's picks, you must be YELLER.
For once it will be nice to go to Muncie to cool off!
It's been HOT here.
Ok then, let her pick for you!
Derek
OK, that answers that. Ya are Yeller.
What is this "practice" you speak of? I thought you were naturally awesome?
Derek
This is a cool down for us, it's been triple digits all month...
Hey diddle diddle,
When Serge plays his fiddle
My scores will be over the Moons'
I flew when it was around 108-109 last weekend, and 62 yesterday. I detected a slight difference in the control sensitivity.
Brett
Really, that's hard to believe.
Gee thanks Brett. You have given him a great idea!
Hey diddle diddle,
When Serge plays his fiddle
My scores will be over the Moons'
It just barely possible he was going to come up with that one on his own. He's a natural, you know.
Brett
Well, yeah! I'm glad you recognize that! :) :)
Hasn't Randy preached to you about practice?? I will have to talk to him about this situation.
Oh he certainly has. I am just a hard headed kid you know.....
Derek
Oh he certainly has. I am just a hard headed kid you know. I am sure that I will get more than enough practice in Muncie.
I can't fly too much at home, Doug and I are competing for the fewest flights between nats award.
Derek
I believed it more when I pulled out of my wingover at 40 feet instead of my customary 20.
Brett
Tell Ben thanks for the offer but I must decline. I will be responsible for my own outcome from now on. I am able to blame last years draw on Layla my own daughter I would hate to do that to somebody else's child. LL~
Derek
It just barely possible he was going to come up with that one on his own. He's a natural, you know.
Brett
yeah so EVERYONE says and keeps saying and saying and saying but we really know its the 18,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 flights a year that really makes the difference... ;D
Layla can draw for me.
Hey, shouldn't you be on the road by now? ? ? ??? ??? ??? ? ? ?
Hey, shouldn't you be on the road by now? ? ? ??? ??? ??? ? ? ?
John we can't get on the LPad until Sunday afternoon. We CAN use the grass circles starting Friday, where I shall be at the starting bell. Might need an outboard to get out of KC.....Trax tells me rain there tomorrow so hope the grass will dry out before Friday morning.
Hey, shouldn't you be on the road by now? ? ? ??? ??? ??? ? ? ?
In Laramie as we speak.
Layla can draw for me.
Can't we just use your random number generator for the draw? It would go much faster and Layla would not be implicated in the outcome.
Good idea Steve. Poor layla is going to have to draw for everyone. I will probably still end up 1st both rounds. HB~>
Derek
That's still not as bad a flight order as I drew last time I was there. I drew 1st in three of the four qualifying rounds. Can't even blame Layla for that one.
Found out Days Inn thought it chick to remove mini fridges and microwaves so off to Walmart to buy something to cook my meals in....and water. Have a heck of a nice day.
No problem, just blame Bush instead! LL~
Raining here now. Matt the explanation I got was they had a limited number to be had upon request. Some corporate group (maybe Trump) requested them all. If you need to heat your beans bring them to 215. That resident just got a great new Hamilton Beach that I might not find room to haul home.
Understood. I plan on beating you (and everyone else) by at least .04 points.
Derek

Ouch!!
How bout a little more salt for that wound.
Good luck to you all and don't forget to have fun

Then we can have a super-long thread on how computer-generated random numbers are really not "random" and favor certain "selected" candidates, after which I try to acquire some Americium 241 and a GeLi detector, and then have Tim Wescott can lecture us all how we are using it incorrectly! Such fun.

Fehrenheit? When you HOT- you HOT. BTW.. The mist stopped and its stunt heaven on circle 4. Just noticed for the first time the car track has been removed. Just open field there. Don't remember if it was there last year. Think it was. Bleachers gone there too.
Raining again here in Shawnee. I see you must have gotten an early start. Are the other locals(Melvin, Brenda and Jim) there yet. Remember to have fun and post a lot of pictures.Nobody yet Doc. Jim told me they were traveling tomorrow. Haven't seen Brenda or Melvin and their trailer of goodies is not here.

Is Frank's electric or does it have real power?
I'm not seeing linkage to the 'boost tabs' on your flaps, is that (the linkage) now internal, and the control horns which are visible are vestigial?
Dave, Thanks for the pictures. They are MUCH appreciated. Please keep them coming.Hey Tom! Maybe it doesn't show well in the pics but he IS flying the new twin.
I thought Buddy was going to fly his new twin. What happened?

Just met Chris Cox, a very nice gentleman
Sorry, owner unknown but nice ship
I think that green machine is Mark Scarborough's?Yes it is and my apology to Mark for not knowing that.
Thanks for all the great pics! y1
Bill Werwage is around but I've not talked to him yet. I understand he will be flying Classic.

Has Chris Rud made it there yet with his Typhoon?
The pilots meeting in progress. The infamous ping pong ball draw for flight order.
I uploaded a bunch of pictures from appearance judging to facebook and I made the album public. Here is the link to it for those who want to look at most of the airplanes. There were four 19 point airplanes, which included Paul Walker's Predator, Gene Martine's SV-11, Kaz Minato's Hellcat, and Todd Lee's Spitfire.

Nobody home there? ???
Could one lose appearance points if you didn't have a high gloss Warbird?
NO!
(But, it did happen once. It was a travesty.)
But that is not the subject of this thread. So keep it that way.
Keith
NO!

I'm sorry, but the subject of this thread had drifted over to the appearance judging because of the pictures posted and the replies about those so Charles posted a very natural question. Sorry, Mr. Trostle, but your arrogance is out of line. Lighten up and at least try to be decent to this poster. I have observed that he could probably post a compliment to you and you would jump on him even for that.
Group C.the top five will be a real shoot out.
Hate to miss this Nats
Why so light on group A
Jose Modesto
Doug Moon, Orestes, and Brett you call light?
Doug Moon, Orestes, and Brett you call light?
There's 11 in A, 16 in B, 17 each in C and D. With 61 entrants, why aren't there three groups with 15 and one with 16?
I'm not going to get into the whole "this is tilted toward <insert image of your paranoia here>" -- because it's obviously tilted toward people who actually showed up as opposed to, say, me. But I am curious why the quantities are not more evenly spread between groups.
Thanks. Brett
No compirasy from me. just wondered the number of pilot distribution per circle.
Jose
Because of quantization effects. Extensively discussed here:
http://stunthanger.com/smf/index.php/topic,27927.0.html
Brett
No. the quantity of flyers. Not the quality.
Jose Modesto

Sorry, Jose. I misunderstood your question. The reason for the difference in numbers is that Open is on four circles, and Advanced is on three. I think there are 11 Open guys on each group. There are 5 Advanced guys in group B, and 6 in C and D.
Howard. What effect did the elimination of Expert, have on the number of Advance entries, compared to 2014.
Any increase.?
My thanks to Keith Trostle for sponsoring trophies for OTS and Howard Rush for sponsoring trophies for Classic. I got a couple of 3rd places today which the grandkids promptly confiscated.
Keith & Howard, you are sincerely appreciated by this Grinch.
I will not go to facebook or tweet. I have had my computer data destroyed by various sites and the risk is too great. Even my external backup has been destroyed. I lost 350 names and addresses. I CANNOT RISK losing my drawing and graphics files and my addresses.
If is not here on Stunt Hanger I will not see it.
The most impressive flight I saw was Dave Fitzgerald's last practice flight in the wind. He flew like the wind wasn't even there.
Paul, Howard, Mark,
We rode through hell and high waters to see you guys. 😁
You did remember to bring my plane????
Tom
Derek,
"SPS" Self Praise Stinks!
Good luck any how.
I did get Billy's winning flight in classic on video. If the wind doesn't die down tonight, I'll try and get it uploaded to YouTube.
Finally some moving pictures! #^
Thanks Matt! ;)
Matt:
HHmmmmmmm....lets see now...you're going to get the wind uploaded to Utube...gotta see that!!!!! <= <= LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~
Randy Cuberly
My prediction for the top five in no specific order is;
Me
Doug
Paul
Dave
Orestes
That being said, anything can happen and there are at least 10-15 top five pilots here competing.
Derek
The picture is to big from my phone..So if Randy goes to facebook he can steal it and post it here
. . . I was honored to have my Avenger selected for the best appearing classic plane===================================================
I have seen a lot of good flights in practice over the past few days. I think it is too early to say anyone was clearly above the rest. I am pulling for the guy with the green and blue plane...
The link is safe as its a link directly to that album, which I made available for everyone to see.
I've already been given the 411 on that issue. Info travels fast.
I took a look at the other five pages of the Thread. Lots of unrelated Posts.
I just believe a Warbird looks out of place all shined up and polished.
If there's an issue with topic, we do have Moderators.
When was the last time you were at an air show. Those war birds had better or just as good a finish as our control line planes.
Thanks For the scores Dave. How is the weather today, for first day of qualifying.
Jose Modesto
Well done dave!!
Why didnt bill werwage fly? Yet he flew classic.
Hey Matt: Good camera work, keep it up. Would be great to see some the videos on from top 20 and top 5 days..
I have a couple videos uploading to Youtube now. They will hopefully be uploaded within the hour
Maybe I missed it but did he enter his overheads wrong?d
It was like OTS style??
Round #1 top ten results:

[
Robert I hope you know that is a comic video
d
Paul,
The camera was chasing the focal point, but It appeared that Gene Martine entered and exited correctly
Where is Doug Moon??????
Where is Chris Cox????
Looks like Billy had some issues flying, especially the verticle 8. I have seen him fly better. But, congrats to all that flew. Now I hope Dave nails a barn burner so he can fly Friday. And Mark congrats on the Classic award, wel deserved.
Dave congrats on top 20. With all that you have done, for us stay home guys, chronicling the action and you were able to make top 20. Way to go. Hope you can continue with the play by play.
Steve Fitton way to go returning to top 20. Second round scores were real good. Go get them tomorrow.
Steve the new plane must be a killer.
Matt so close.
Jose Modesto
Wow Derek.....that's a shame....it looked like you were in the running...
Do you have a backup?
Best!
Wow! Wonder what happened on Gilberts first flight, looks like he left 50 to 100 points on the table. ???
It's going to be a shoot out tomorrow. Best of luck to all of a pretty damn good group of champions. Watch out for Kaz, he's the only one with his name not yet on the Walker Trohpy but he's also long past sneaking into contention!
Bravo to my buddy, Brett. Careful. When you're on top they're all shooting for you. If you fly better, however, they can never get on your tail for a clean shot.
Sorry I missed talking to you Derek. It happened just before my first flight, and then I had to re pull and reload the fuel and fly again in two flights. Then it rained and we headed for cover.
Sorry for your lost chance. I'm sure Mr. "TOWERING AWESOMENESS" will be back next year!
Sorry to see Chris Cox edged out. He was looking real good the last time I saw him in Oregon.
Dave,
Did you get any video of Paul's flights? Also would like to see how Bob did with the twin.
Best, DennisT
While they are ok break I would like to thank everyone who worked tirelessly to make it all happen. Each and every year you guys make this a great trip.
Derek's crash was very unfortunate. He was on his way to another top5 from what I saw.
Steve Moon had a best finish at 12. He made the Russian motor work well all week even in the winds.
Steve Fitton improved every flight this week with a brand new plane. Way to go Steve!
Eric Viglione has the PA 75 run I WANT!!!
Congrats to Chris Rud on well fought out 7th place. He had a very long week with motors and props but kept forging ahead and it paid off.
Condolences to John Hill and the Texan a low pull out damaged the plane and it was no longer flyable.
Frank Williams is the MAN! His sidewinder was a beast and cut though the winds like it wasn't even there.
Frank McMillan fought hard with Caudron 9 and flew well as usual.
Dang it Joe Gilbert! It's rounds then squares then triangles. He flew good all week. His design is a really good flying model.
Rich Oliver had one of the coolest looking planes there. His paint schemes are always spot on!! Sencond row for him, Boom!! He was fighting hard in the top 20 and the rains came and sticky lines got him. His plane lives to fight another day.
Dale Gleason got his tendon rebuilt on one of his fingers on his right hand. I think he might have some PA parts in there but I am not sure. Linda worked circle 1 and 2 like the pro she is and gave us the best brownies in all of Inidiana! Thank you!!
Max Moon made a nice FP 25 sized hole in the practice circles and is seriously hooked now and wants to learn how to pull out of the wing over now that he has figured out how to enter into it. Doug Patterson gave him enough stuff to keep him going for sometime. Thank you Doug! Max asked to build on the new stuff every day back at the hotel. :)
Bob Howard and Gary McClellan judged and did a very good job. Thank you. Bob, you up for running th nats?? :)
Mike Scott and grandson Jefferey Scott made the trip. Jeffery was 1 point away from the win in beginner and brought home a serious amount of loot. Mike worked hard all week and even more so in the few weeks prior to get his electric Genesis working. He was flying for a birth in the top 20 and the motor shutdown in the overheads and plane couldn't be saved. Mike took like the true nats champ he is a just moved on.
As for me I was pretty darn frustrated/mad for sure yesterday afternoon when the scores were posted. I just made too many mistakes in the heavy winds in the early round and gave away points on stupid stuff on the second round. In this game you have to fly good enough so you can't be denied. This year I didn't quite get it done. The warm up flight was hard this morning knowing I could have been waiting to fly for the championship again. But that's the way it goes.
Brett Buck's first round flight:
Congratulations to Michael Paris and Samantha Hines, to boot.
How did Samantha fly this year? I know that last year there were raves about how she got the most out of an underperforming plane.
Having just arrived back in Kansas I wanted to thank all who helped make this Nats and this report what it is. Matt a special thanks for the videos.. Haven't watched them yet but in the next few... I wish everyone a safe trip home.
As usual the trip back is a time to reflect on my own performance and where I need new focus to improve. Sometimes we defeat ourselves in some ways but we also can see where we have moved forward in positive ways. We can see what works, what doesn't and where we might be wasting our efforts. The 2016 Nats? Starts in the morning.
Again Thank You and safe travels
Been facebook IMing with Mike all week. Sammi had an accident with her new Legacy and had to fly the Long Shot again. Mike beat her out for the second place spot, though I'm sure Sammi made him work for it.
Bob's twin looks extremely cool in flight with the gear up. Retracts work well. Curiously, his props turn the same direction.
My favorite picture of this Nats. Dawn on day 2 of qualifying; everyone is still in the game, the possibilities are endless.....!
So.....what is the low small blue tent next to the circle? I just need to know.
Shug
Shug,Thankee. Thought maybe it was covering a hole. Maybe some sort of visual aid. Possible judge nap spot.
That low blue tent used to be a tall blue tent until the wind blew at which time the inhabitants wisely lowered its angle of attack. Standard practice when the wind gets above Vr (rotation speed) for the tent's gross weight.
Ted
My favorite picture of this Nats. Dawn on day 2 of qualifying; everyone is still in the game, the possibilities are endless.....!
I have to agree with other comments so far Steve, this is a great pick, especially including all the manly one handed engine burping going on at the crack of dawn.
Congrats on a great Nat's recovery with the last minute build/finish of the new Rapier too! Well done!
EricV
Dave and Brett drive me nuts with that stuff!!!! I always offer to help when I see it but they always decline. Those two scare the @#$% out of me doing that.
Congrats on a great Nat's recovery with the last minute build/finish of the new Rapier too! Well done!
EricV
Thanks Eric for all the help and patience you showed while I at times chased my tail with the new plane. It was the end of what had been a very long month. At home it feels a bit strange to not have to rush down to either the shop or flying field every morning!
I was pumped to qualify again after missing last year, but hated to see it come at the expense of Eric Taylor and Matt Colan, both of whom flew extremely well all week long. I think the total spread between 5th, 6th, and 7th on our circle was three points(!) Eric was battling a bug of some sort and really had to gut out the contest; I can't imagine flying a Nats while being sick.
Matt got to have Brett and Dave look over his Thundergazer and I know the model will be flying better than ever thanks to their input. The session provided some comic relief as well: "Hey! who put this trim tab on....!"
Just thinking of the fact that Brett, Howard, Paul, etc are probably still driving home at this hour.
#^ y1 y1Thanks Gene and it's always great to spend time with you. Rest? Is it flying weather?
Thanks Dave for the great reporting. Now we can get a little rest. Z@@ZZZ
Gene
Home now. 16 hours Sunday and 17 Monday.
Tired now!
Was Mike the only one of the Paris' to fly at the NATS?
I am halfway through - 16+ hours today (big crash in Albuquerque during rush hour, right near pre-existing road construction). Not terribly tired but another 15-ish tomorrow.
It was indeed another 15 hours - would have been more like 12.5 if it weren't for bad drivers, all of which were in California. Bad trying to get through Bakersfield over to I-5, and the usual "quality driving" on I-5, with idiots running side-by-side for mile after mile 5 mph below the speed limit and other idiots passing on the right trying to get ahead.
Brett
Being that this is in California Brett, could it be due to "global warming?" ;) (Sometimes I just can't resist the urge.)
Great videos, Matt. What round were these?
Ted
