SUPERTIGRE C21-35 (LATE MUFFLER VERSION )
« on: March 15, 2016, 07:01:38 AM »
I don't have instructions for this plain bushed main bearing version.
What are the FACTORY recommendations for :
FUEL - NITRO, OIL CONTENT & OIL TYPE( CASTOR/SYNTHETIC BLEND ? ALL CASTOR ?)
PLUG- SHORT OR LONG REACH ? HOT, MEDIUM, COLD ?

Thanks

Good morning,
among the old papers I found the instruction sheet of the old Super Tiger '60 -'70 (unfortunately in Italian).

Fuel to break in (No.1): 1 part oil - 2.5 part alcohol (28.5% all castor - 71.5% methanol).
Fuel for competition  : No. 1 + 10% nitro (doses become: oil 25.9% - 65.0% methanol - nitro  9.1% approximately )
Propeller to break in  : 11x6
Stunt Propeller         : 9x6 - 10x6

There is no indication for the type of plug.
At the time the engines were supplied with the "STD" plug , this was LONG REACH.
I think that a hot plug can do the job.

I hope this helps.

Regards, Massimo

Humph .

" C 21/35 "  :P :o .

Theres a 21 /35 . Found a olde instruction thingo refering to the ' V ' on the side as ' Victory ' ,

whereas a C 35 is plain bearing , with a big ' C ' on the side .

ANYWAY , keep it cool . short bursts initially .
all castor , maybe 30 % for a while - then 25 .

The 21/35s often came with Two Intakes Massive ( 9 mm ) & little ( about 3 mm ) .

The C had a 21/35 liner unless it was an ' S ' ( Stunt ) which has a Balle Piston & matching slot in the head .

Plug & fuel would depend on use . Akrobatics or deadly dog fights .  S?P H^^

Frank   I have two ST-C35 that I have used for stunt flying for 25+ years. Back a few years ago I sent Brian Gardener one of them to build ABC P/L sets. I converted both of them and they are the almost perfect 35 size motor. The stock motors I ran half & half 20-25% oil fuel and had hundreds of runs on them. One was used for slow combat and both were like new when I converted them to ABC. Forget the all castor after a one hour break in. They are more powerful than a Fox and do not have the Fox burp problem. I use them in classic models.
I have never seen one with muffler ears.Yours must be the very end of production for the .35

This engine has some time on it and will power a new scratch built  silk & dope Voodoo. A fun diversion from stunt. A friend gifted it to me and I promised to give it a mount.
I aspired to own a Tigre as a kid, it was all Foxes for me. People wonder why I don't use the G version.
Weight. Don't care if it isn't the fastest.

I used many ST's:  C35, S35, RC35, CRC 35, G21/35 and G21/40.

When mufflers came into vogue in stunt, I tried to retrofit them to my engines with little success.  At best, they would tolerate a toke muffler that satisfied the rule with little sound reduction.

I used the C-stunt piston, sleeve and head in a G21 case with no problem.

If you really need a muffler you are better off with an OS or some other engine designed with one.

When the ST's came out in the early 60's, guys who ran stock engines were able to go 120 MPH with Voodoos on .015" lines.  This triggered the upgrade to .018" which cut the speed down to 100 MPH and did away with most flyaways. until the Nelson 36 came out.

A sport flying Voodoo with an unmuffled C or G21 on .015" lines would be a real fun toy.

Hi Frank,
The Super Tigre 35 engine you have is what I used to win the 1966 Nats. I called it the G20 Series which were bushing engines, and the G21 were dual Ball bearings. The G20 C/L Combat engine I used would out run most all the G21 engines if tested on the same plane. There are two basic reasons why. The bushing engine has higher crankcase compression because there is no increase in crankcase volume because of open ball bearing. Bushing engine runs on light film of oil, not spinning the balls and bearing retainer like G21. There is a few other modifications that will help. I ran Fox Missile Mist in my engine.

PS: This engine will knock the Dog out of your fingers, wear heavy leather gloves when starting!

I also like it because it's lighter than the bb version.

Frank,
I got down a box of 20 or so super tigre engines from my attic. Everything from .15 to .46 , front and rear rotor, Ringed, Lapped, ABC, you name it. Almost all engines are in factory box's with the paperwork.  I have found the instructions dated 1963 that gives you the info about fuel and even the parts lists in English. I will try to scan them and post these on this web within a week. I have looked, and found that what I remembered as a G20 .35 engine, is shown as the S.T. 35C engine, the bushing engine in question.  I gave my S.T 35C to my Brother in-law in the early 1970's when I stopped flying. I have texted him today hoping he can find it and send it back to me. I want to compare the crankshaft timing between the S.T. 35C and the G21 35. I am sure I changed that on my S.T., but I have already gotten two things wrong by memory already.

   Thanks for your reply, Randy
