Bill: Since you fly with a 9-4 usually, would you want a 8-4 for break in ?
To be honest, Lee, the FPs need basically no break in. Well not much as we tend to think of it like a Fox 35!
The ones I've used, and Steve Fitton used, run the 10-4 APC.
The biggest thing I have seen is that as the engine gets more time, it burns less fuel. With the ABN later FPs, (not the earliest iron piston ones) all I have done is run a tank on the ground to get familiar with it, and then fly! Haven't been able to detect any longevity issues with the ABN set ups doing this. OS sets them up, tolerance wise, so that the R/C crowd can take 'em out of the box and fly them without injury to the engines.
Bench running won't hurt, and I would probably use an 8-4 for it, but I never have found the need as long as it isn't set screaming lean on take off!
