Well, after a lot of debate, I'm finally starting a new plane. Funny, I doodled around quite a bit and came up with at least 3 new designs, but wasn't committed to any of them. I liked them all, but it wasn't what I was looking for at the moment (all may show up at some point. They are all pretty cool, especially the elliptical job). Thought about some more, then, weirdly, sat down and came up with the final in a single sitting. I'm still a pencil and paper guy so I need to have a clear idea of what I want, both aerodynamically and aesthetically, and have the picture in my head before I start. I tend towards flurries of activity when I'm feeling it and droughts when I'm not.
So, next few days will be dinking around with some preliminaries like machining engine mounts and a different idea I have about a leadout slider that should work well. Once some of the machine work is done and I have a bellcrank laid up (and a few other odds and ends), I'll start cutting wood. I tend to do all the parts set up ahead of time so there's not break in construction once I get going. OH, I need to pick up some CA, too. Put that on my list. Should go together pretty quickly and I already have a paint scheme figured out. I love it when that happens.
