need help how to stick goggles on pilot figures
« on: August 10, 2006, 03:22:03 PM »
the title says it all. I'm posting a picture here of the pilots for my LA HEAT( the pilots are Shawn and John, they are twins-heh heh) I really want to use the goggles. Does anybody have a sure fire way to attach the goggles to the pilot fixtures so they won't ever fall off?

There's probably a bunch of "best ways" for this one Frank, but here's what I do.
I scrape away the paint down to the plastic in all the contact areas on the pilot, sand the contact area on the goggle or visor, and then glue with 5 minute epoxy. I've never had a problem yet.

Shoot!!!...........I was hoping for something quick and easy.

Well Wayne I'm going down to the shop to do that right now.
I'll be ordering your suggested colors from Brodak tomorrow.
In your drawing I see that the canopy interior is all black so I will be ordering flat black also.
I don't plan on putting an instrument panel in it. Just the pilots and all flat black. Sound right to you?

Hi Frank,

If you already have some black, just add some talcum powder to it.  Instant flat black, and you can also sand it and add more paint.  It works as a filler, too.  Just add the talc until you get it as flat as you want it.

Wayne--I scratched and sanded the areas to be glued and stuck the goggles on the pilots. Looks like that's going to work real good.
I ordered the Miss Ashley Red and the Miami Blue from Brodak today.

Bill---I couldn't find unscented talcum powder. So I mixed Brodak White Primer into the black and got a great flat grey.

FYI--there are 186 inches of fillets on the LA Heat.

thanks Wayne-----I've almost got the fillets done, just a few more inches. Then I'll do the canopy and rudder.

Just a friendly reminder Frank to do your own thing here. You build real nice stuff, I'm just offering suggestions and input, it's your model.
I can't get to the sign shop 'til Monday, and I'll work out a font for you. Have fun! y1
