distance between stabilizer and elevator?
« on: February 15, 2010, 04:48:11 PM »
when using cloth hinges, what is the distance or gap between the stab and elevator? using alternating over and under hinging, do you dope down the up side after getting the elevator at 30 degrees, then take up the slack when you dope the down side at 30 degrees? Or do lay it flat with a gap, dope one side and then flip it over? this will be my first cloth hinge set up and i just want to get it right. Thanks Dave Rountree

Dave, the way that I have been doing mine is about three coats of dope on stab and elev, after that dries,  sand smooth then dope my hinges to stab or elev doing one hinge, then turn over do .
next hinge butted up to first hinge, then altrenate again.
This way there isn't a gap between the hinges.
I let this dry, then butt up to the opposite surface, and dope them down.
Again NO slack between stab and elev..
The capital letters are to be emphatic...No slack between stab and elev...
I hope that this helps... H^^
