Stick a couple of pennys on with double sided sticky tape and see what happens.

I use a nickel.  Jefferson head is best.  1955-62 are vintage years.  Makes the plane fly better.  Honest.

Then I think missed out on a cool model. My Stuntman did have a sheet wing (built in 4 sections) and would stall out very easy. Thats when I discovered the Jump'in Bean.

I'm going to weigh in with Clint on this.  I had a Stuntman 23 and I'm almost positive the "23" was for the wingspan.  1/8 sheet, mine didn't fly that great, but neither did I.  I had a Cub 074 on mine, probably would have been better off with one of my Baby Bee's.  Totaled it when I tried a loop and when I saw I wasn't going to make it I attempted to go inverted instead.  Probably it was stalled, anyhow it was going straight down when it hit the packed dirt.  The Cub is in my garage and still runs.

Yep, The "Stuntman 23" had a sheet 23" WS.  The Lil' Jumpin' Bean had a 24" built up wing and looked very similar.  Still have one of those!

Speaking of Carl Goldberg, did anyone else build a Ranger 30?  Mine were free flights but if memory serves, there was a U/C option.

Russel

You are right about the Stuntman 23 flying better with a smaller motor. I used golden bee 0.49 with it and it flew quite well. Inside loops and inverted flight were not problem. Never flew any ourside stuff except recovery from inverted and that was fine so it would have done an outside loop.

Russ,

I built a Ranger 28 in 1959. All sheet balsa construction, with a Cox Pee Wee .020 engine. Think there was also a Ranger 30 available for half A power?

Anyway, lost that cute little Ranger with a brand new Pee Wee engine, when the little devil went OOS on it's maiden flight!  HB~>

Never built another FF.  :(

I built one to be sure, not sure if it was a 30 or a 28? It had sheet wings, built up fuse, the sheet wings though had little riblets to hold the airfoil shape as I recall? man that was long ago, I flew it ,, well maybe flogged it is a better term, Ucontrol. dont remember it flying all the well, but then I didnt either, had the stunman 23, Little toot,(first complete flight on this badboy, and that was without the top wing, I carashed it and broke the wing off, flew it again anyway and actually got my first full tank flight that way, lol) also had the Lil jumping bean.then I got a "real" model, Goldberg shoestring stunter profile! Mcoy redhead 35 , now that was some flyin I am here to tell you, lol,,
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Robert,

The Ranger 28 was exactly as Mark described, but was not ink-stamped like the Jig-Time series. The Jig-Time kits were rubber powered.

The Ranger 21 shown, is very similar in outline to the Ranger 28.

The Ranger 28 had sheet wings, and tail surfaces, with ribs under the wings to  hold the sheet in an undercamber airfoil shape, and a sheeted rectangular fuselage, with formers.  Simple wrap around plastic windows, and a prebent wire landing gear.

I think the Ranger 30 might have had built up tissue covered wings, but I'm not at all sure about that.

That was almost fifty years, and thousands of bottles of beer ago!  DK^

I also built a Carl Goldberg Ranger 30 back in the early '60s. It had a sheet wing with riblets and a built up fuselage. Power for mine was a PeeWee .020. I was a typical kid, had never flown a free flight plane before, knew nothing about engine run timers, and had no way to put in a specific amount of fuel. So, tank was filled, engine was started, plane was launched, it flew with a beautiful circling climb, and (with the PeeWee .020 still screaming) it disappeared into the clouds never to be seen again  ~^ .

Dennis, my brothers and I lost one the same way.  First flight on a very windy day with a full tank.  Didn't do a nice circling climb, it was a circle and stall into the wind thing, but it got plenty of altitude.  Engine quit and it turned downwind and went straight away.  We were lucky, though, a ranch hand found it that summer and knew that the Shaffer kids flew airplanes.  As I recall, it was undamaged but I have no idea what finally happened to it.  I gave my remaining 020's away recently and hopefully they will fly again.

I've been searching for info on Jigtime models for 50 years!!! The Cutlass was the best catapault model ever printed! (or glued! Or Both!) But nobody remembered it. But now, thanks to you, I FOUND IT! Bless you. (I also like the Navion)

Stuntman 23
Spaceman 30.

One of our local Orbiteers members had a Spaceman 30 powered by a TeeDee 15.  What a rocketbomb!!!!  Enough to make you forget messing with 1/2A's.
