I have several, and they all work well.  Eric Rule at RSM will sell them, though at a markup from buying direct from Jan Holuszko.  The venturi is setup to give great runs on balloon or uniflo tanks.  If you run pressure, you can drill it out for even more power.

I like the Merlin glowheads.  They work well, last just fine, and are relatively inexpensive.  I use one extra head gasket and 10/10/10 fuel.  I get about 20K on the ground with an APC 5.5x2.5 prop.
Think S.M.A.L.L. y'all and, it's all good, CL, FF and RC!

Hi Bill,

The Shameless is a plane Aaron really likes.  Todd Lee gave Aaron the one he did as a Product Review in Flying Models years ago.  We are now "back at it" and it should be built before too long, he had to take a "break" but things are settled down for now.

Thanks
Bill

Hi Bill,

I remember it as a really great flying profile!  Todd had used a "trick" Big Art OS .40FP, and we put a ST 46 on it.  A glitch of some sort ended its days while Aaron was at the handle....... LL~

Might use an OS .46LA on it these days! (??)

Thanks Bill, I got what I need on the venturi.  Now about the engine being on sale.  I see it for $29.99.  Such a deal !  Thanks for the heads up on this.  I'm going to get at least one and the venturi from Jan. <=

Blush!  :-\ I actually own 15 of them.  I don't EVER want to run out!  Not all are equipped with Jan's venturis, I figure that those don't wear out!  I even have one with a Tee Dee venturi and Kirn-Kraft needle!  Works great.

15 huh.  Well now, you wouldn't be living  by the motto, "if a little is good, more is better" would you ?  #^

You missed the last part of the quote: "And too much is just right!"  My wife claims that is the "family motto".

Larry you are funny.  I can relate to what you are saying, but I think I'll keep my Wasp .061 ownership to 2, at least for the time being. ;D

Here is a question for Larry !  I just finished break-in on one of my new Wasp .061 engines.  It's turning about 19000 R's on an APC 5.7x3, & what started out as 15% nitro fuel before I added about 4% castor to bring the oil up to 22% or so. Also running Jan Holuszko's venturi. So my question is this.  How does this compare to the wasp engines you have run. Is it average, below average, or above average. Just trying to get a base line performance .  :)

Hi Guys,
I have Hobby People Wasp entry bookmarked for the next sale. Just turned up the website and the AP Wasp is listed at  $53.99!! I have refreshed the page and no sign of a bargain! So where should I look?
By the time I have found it, they will be out of stock, because you all got in before me!

Regards,

Andrew.

Andrew,

That sale was over long over, but it was the second time that I recall them being offered at that price.

Unfortunately, I had purchased two at the regular price, and couldn't resist adding a couple more.  ;D

Still haven't figured out if that was $30 saved off the regular price, or $60 lost to engine hoarding.  LL~

I usually run the APC 5.5 x 2.5 prop and get about 20K on 10% Nitro using Merlin Plugs with an extra gasket.  APC made a variety of 5.7 x 3 props, some smaller, some larger, so I can't exactly comment on your engine's performance.

If it runs strongly through an entire flight, it is just fine.  If it burns plugs, the crankshaft is probably tight (seen two like that).  If it blows fuel out the "nose" of the crankshaft, it is too loose and needs to be exchanged (only happened to me once, but there was no hassle in getting a new one).

A consistent problem that bit me again today is having the venturi screws come loose (vanish, actually).  I think that Locktite must be dissolved by Nitro.  I will JB weld my venturis in going forward.  HB~>

Larry,

Are you using the original venturi mounting screws?

I replaced all of mine with ACE Hardware screws, but if those are failing I would not hesitate to open the case holes, and replace them with a 2X56 screw through the case and venturi, with a lock nut on the other side.

Norvel used a single screw on all of their venturi mounts, but only on the later production. I think the early Norvels used epoxy or some other adhesive to hold the venturi in place.

Thank you Bill!
I will keep watching the website just in case! At $53.99 they are a touch pricey. I can buy them herein the UK for £29.99, which is the equivalent of a little more than $45 and I don't have to pay the huge surcharge that would happen if I imported them!

Regards,

Andrew.
