One day back in the early 50’s, I don’t recall the exact year, my Dad came in and asked how I would like a flying model. You can guess the answer. I had built, with some help, some solids. These were the old Strombecker Kits, carved from Pine.
At the Hobby Shop we selected a Scientific American Boy and Anderson Spitzy .045. The original is of course long gone, but a few years ago I built another one for a Grandson. It flew for a while with a COX and recently I brought it out of retirement and mounted a Spitzy. Haven’t flown this motor yet but the original had plenty of power. It will likely need some nose weight since the Spitzy is lighter and shorter.
