The best WHeel
« on: May 29, 2013, 08:50:48 AM »
~^ Since we seem to be getting a lot off ,what is the best plane, best wing ,best windy weather plane. Here is my question What is the wheel that has worked the best for you?
One where the hub does not were out in 50 flights, where the tread is not scuffed away in 50 flights, and is light and is narrow. Also where can I buy them? #^
inquiring minds what to know or at least I do
I am waiting for Howard's empirical answer.

Ed - I'm still a fan of the Maxx Products wheels. I use the EPW200 or EPW250.  I've even ground the 2.5" wheel down to 2 3/8" to fit certain wheel pants, and it seems to hold up fine. That said, I take off on a cement strip but land on grass, so the mileage may vary used strictly on blacktop. After a week at the Nat's, they seem to be no worse for the wear though... The foam is a lot harder than most ultra light foam wheels, so the small strip seems to hold up well. I don't think it's prone to bounce, that's probably more a function of location in relation to CG.

I am Howard, but I don't know what the best wheels are.  I just got me some Maxx AW57 2.25" wheels.  They look cool.  I hope they fit in the trousers I've had sitting around for several years awaiting wheels that fit.

I have several sets of 2.25 Maxx wheels and really like the hubs. Great on grass.  However I do go back to Dubro low bounce for the Lpad.  Makes up for some intrepid piloting sometimes.

The entire line of Maxx wheels are worth looking at.  They have a new line (at least I think it is fairly new) with machined aluminum hubs that look really good, seem fairly light, have a nice streamlined shape and the rubber is more dense that the foam type stuff on some of the super light wheels.

Thanks guys. I looks like the wheel of choice is the Maxx Wheel. I have saved the link and will get some 2" for the next project.

I also like the Maxx wheels. But, I think the absolute best wheel is the
Tettra from Japan. They have an aluminum hub with a foam tire. They are
expensive, but e hub will last forever and replacement foam tires can be
purchased. They are quite popular with RC Pattern guys and can be found at
Central Hobbies.
