Torque Transfer Unit

At a recent RC swap meet a guy had a few CL goodies so I picked them up. In the box were 3 H & R Torque Transfer Units. One is class 1/2A, one is class A, and one is class C. They were distributed by Bill's Miniature Engines in Memphis TN. I am assuming this is monoline speed stuff. Or is it? There is folded instruction sheet inside that looks like the unit goes in the wing of a CL model. I can't make out the whole thing because its folded and I did not want to open the packages. Any idea what I have here? Thanks, Mike

you do indeed have 3 mono line torque units for control line speed.

Bill McGraw used to carry these and they are very good unit.

I used to get most of my stuff from Bill when I was flying speed and then later racing boats.

The 1/2A is just for that, 1/2A speed models
the A is for .15 (2.5cc) powered speed planes
and the C is for 40 sized speed ships.

they do mount in to the wing itself.

Since these units were made some 40 + years ago, best comment I can make is to pin them to your wall and not even dream of using them in airplanes. Too many rules changes and performance changes since their design.

There is a gentleman in the NorthWest making suitable units for todays' rules and speeds.

FWIW, in an article on the Rattler engines, Model Engine News: August 2013, it's noted that these units are still in use.

The point of my earlier reply re the Units was, while the design concept is still very valid, the rules changes and performance gains in the years since McGraw made those units. The rules regarding button size have changes, for one. Flying wire sizes and pull tests have gone up bunches etc. So, treat these antiques as they are, antiques.

The Units currently made in the NorthWest are updated for current conditions. And they work very well.
