The New Zealand Experience!!
« on: February 25, 2007, 12:35:15 PM »
Well Patrick arrived safely and so far has been looked after well. ( beer and food ) the weather behaved itself and we all had a fantastic weekends flying. The air was a bit fidly with Patricks new JB engine refusing to start and my baily fast doing the same so we both had to run older engines. Patrick managed a nice 195 mph flight but he definately noticed the shorter lines  n~
I tried my new blue thunder model and for somebody that hadnt flown monoline before did pretty well. Model still in one piece 177 mph and wanting to go quicker. Andrew Robinson is going to write a article for the NASS Mag so please look out for it

Regards
Robert

Joey our line length is 19.9m which is close enough too 65 feet also line thickness is 0.8mm (31thou) that 5 feet off made a big difference I believe  ~>

Robert

Here is a brief summary from Andrew Robinson from the comp!!

Attached are the Speed results from our recent contest here in New Zealand.
Weather was great and lots of Jet flying mixed in with Team Race, Stunt and
Combat.
Patrick Hemple had a great time, in fact, still is having a great time.

Six entries in NASS Sport Jet which Andrew Robinson won with a solid 147.0
mph, Brendan Robinson was 2nd, 143.9 mph, Robert Bolton was 3rd, 142.9 mph
and Patrick Hemple was 4th, 142.3 mph.
Open Jet was won by Patrick Hemple at 191.5 mph with Robert Bolton 2nd on
173.78 mph and Andrew Robinson 3rd at 171.22 mph with 2 lines.
F2A and 21 Speed were also flown.

Robert Bolton flew his monoline 'Blue Thunder' kit model for the first time
on the Friday before the contest, did 140mph with a stock retainer in the
engine. Says that the model flies great and grooves like a train. Second
flight with a fast retainer did 175.25 mph, 1 mph faster than the current
NZ Record. Couldn't repeat the performance in the contest though. This was
with his home made engine which is a Super Burp design head and Bailey fast
tailpipe. He couldn't get his Bailey fast jet engine to run in the model.
Patrick Hemple had a new Jet Bill engine that he test flew also. Only got 7
laps out of it and had lots of trouble getting it to stay running. He
changed back to his Bailey fast and was away no trouble. More testing
required on the JB engine is required.

Please circulate to all interested people.

Regards,

Andrew Robinson

Steve we flew the sort jet to your rules so Patrick wouldnt have to change anything. But it did make us Kiwis chase metering jets apart from andrew. Fast jet is 0.5mm 2 line and 0.8mm monoline with 19.9 metres length. we time for 8 laps which is 1 km
cheers
Robert

Hello,

I have attached some of my favorite pictures from my New Zealand Experience I thought I would show them to Yawl!

I would like to thank the Robinson’s and the Bolton’s for letting me hang out with them while I was there and showing me the sites.

It is a very nice place!

After the meet on Saturday we had a dinner party at Andrews house I got to meet all the New Zealand modelers. (VERY NICE)!

Thanks,
Patrick Hempel
