Rolf Miebach (W. Germany) recorded his slowest ever flight with the original Stuppi (later swapped with Chuck Schuette's assymetric Duralumin winged, opposite one sided tailplane model, Super Tigre G.15 powered). Chuck tried a T.W.A. engine in practice but elected to stick to the model and motor he knew best; very consistent, both first and second round speeds were 140.69 m.p.h.

Kevin Lindsey using the rear exhaust M.V.V.S. 2.5 R.L. in a Stuppi with a tuned length pipe recorded 130.58 m.p.h. starting rich but coming right onto tune.

Bill Firbank crashed one lap after his timed run but made 132 36 m.p.h. with his Super Tigre G. 15 Stuppi, Brian Jackson also flew a Stuppi with G.15 and recorded 130.81 m.p.h.

Indeed, it was Emil Rumpel who achieved the seemingly impossible task of beating an Italian with an Italian engine! In the first round, held during the very hot and virtually windless morning, he put in a run which was timed unofficially at around 240km/hr. The time was 'unofficial' because the timekeepers had only measured the speed over nine laps . . . and thus Emil was granted a refly.

Without changing the settings, he completed another run - this time at an incredible 255-32km/hr. Naturally, the engine is a Rossi; but it has been severely 'looked at' by Rolf Miebach; indeed, it now features an ABC piston/liner assembly and is fitted with a lengthened pipe (i.e. a 'flat' section was added to the standard Rossi pipe). The tailpipe is sleeved down to 5-5-5 7mm diameter according to conditions, and in common with the rest of the German team a crankcase Emil Rumpel proved the very popular winner of the speed event with 255-32km/hr. (158-Smph)-a real credit to his Miebach tuned Rossi and careful preparation. The model is a stretched wing 'Kingfisher'- plans of which are included in this issue.
