Perky Rules
« on: February 01, 2011, 03:13:34 PM »
Where can I find a copy of the rules?

I'm curious as to any building restrictions. For example, can we carve a fuselage or does it have to be built up?

Same with wings and tail surfaces.

Can anyone help?

Just checking my Perky plan - "Built as per plan outline. Construction modification allowed".
Ian Russell.
[I can remember the schedule o.k., the problem is remembering what was the last manoeuvre I just flew!].

1. The Model must be built to the out line of the original 1946 Megow Perky design. Construction modifications allowed.

... aha!
13. The Pilot is not required to use the AMA Speed Pylon.

Bob,

You are aware that Black Hawk Models produces a Perky kit that is used by most entrants to the contest.  Just checking.

Larry thanks for putting that kit out there. It would be real nice to see you do a Dale Kirn Torkey kit.

Larry, has Black Hawk models made a mod to the kit to accomodate a Brodak fuel tank?

I worked out a mod to fit a Brodak 1oz tank in but then I was reminded that for the race you only need a 3/4oz tank at the most.  A simple solution is to remove most of the motor mounts aft of the bulkhead, then there is plenty of room.  A more complex solution, but more awarding, is to move the bulkhead forward to the rear of the engine.  In this way the landing gear is also positioned further forward for better landings.

I thought I had picture of my tank, but can't find it.  It mounts between the engine, bulk head and engine mounts.   H^^

Here's my fix.  Build the plane with a top and (wooden) bottom, like a pan rat.

Three bolts, #1 through the bellcrank, #2 behind the wing, and #3 tail.

ps:
In a contest with a speed limit and the winner is closest to average, I wouldn't worry too much about a Perky being disallowed for some minor deviation from the rules.

I was wondering about one point in the rules:
Flight Procedure:
16 laps (one mile) timed from standing start
or:
12. The Model will be timed for 1 mile, 16 Laps from the point of release.

Does the timing start from the Timer's signal, or does the Timer start the clock when he sees the model move? Or does it matter?

Let me answer the second part of the question first ... No it doesn't matter ... you are aiming at an Average time compared with other submitted times.

Now, the first part of the question ... you decide.
