If you have improved you best for 2023 please submit a report.

Paul, This is just a report from our last official contest of this season.  For several reasons the turnout was a bit lower than usual.....and it was very windy (31mph).
Perky:  Al Ferraro  106.4   Ernie Evon   103.2   Raul Diaz  NT
Fox Speed.  Jim Vigani  107.2    Raul Diaz  79.3

Hi Paul!  Well, my fellow Figure 9ers here in Titusville had our Perky Speed event today!  T'was a marvelous event and the weather was just as close to perfect as anyone could expect.  Although there were only three stalwart pilots each of whom had the drive, desire and hopes of unseating our friendly nemesis ... Bob "THE RAD" Whitney from the top seat.  Here's our up to date, unpadded, pure as honey flight time speeds for 16 laps per the Internationally acclaimed Perky Flight rules:

Larry Helphinstine 32.69 mph
Mike Urban: 74.25 mph
Jim Carter:  77.65 mph

All I can say is ... "Beware "Rad" ... all of us had some pretty good sounding excuses so ...... next time ...... !! LL~ LL~ LL~

Thanks for posting.  Shows you don't always have to be the fastest to have fun and learn more at the same time!
Although, I have to admit it is always fun to try to beat the man who I call 'The Gator'.........and sometimes we do.  TS

Thank you.  The scores have been posted.

The new average is down to 96.40 MPH with Don Sopka being the closest.

It's good to see that our oldest X-president is still flying CL.

There is still time to better your scores until November 15, 2023. 32 MPH is a decent low in sportsman carrier, but hard to do with a Perky.

LL~ LL~ LL~  Thanks Paul!!  Actually, since we fly off a really nice grass field, with those tiny wheels our landings are generally pretty rough.  So, to make us feel a bit better, like true aviators on the cutting edge of technology, we were thinking about counting the number of times the plane flips upon touchdown and then deducting one second per flip from the flight time ... assuming the plane survives  :-\.  Sadly, according to preliminary calculations, all of us would still be under 100 mph soooooooooooooo!! %^@ HB~> LL~ LL~ LL~

Still, the question remains;  How could a Perky complete a mile at 32 MPH?  I doubt that I could get one to fly that slow if I tried.

Please have the contestant fly again.  He's pulling down the average too much.

Hey Paul!  Pardon the delay in responding.  Just so you know ... that was honest speed and there were 8 witnesses!  We considered not to count it but we couldn't count the first flight because he didn't make the required number of laps.  Even so that would have only been around 55 mph.  Had this been at Brodak's or the NAT's according to the understanding I have, his speed would have been recorded as flown, wouldn't it?  Is there a minimum speed for reporting purposes?  He still has the plane and it's in flyable condition but I'm not sure he even wants to try again this year considering some of the other events our "gang" have been considering, but I'll ask.

Maybe so.
120 high and 32 low would win any carrier contest.

Today Al and I spent some time with his Perky trying to top the 'Gator" for 2023.  Alas, it was not to be.  Put er up numerous times and came away with a best of 32.38/ 111.18.   But.........it's not the 15th yet!

A good speed, but not a new high for either of you.

How about trying to get UNDER 32 MPH.

Hi Paul!  Well, as requested, me and some of the fellows got together this afternoon so we could try and improve our speeds!  Larry Helphinstine flew again and he clocked his best time of 58.99 seconds at 60.42 mph which was quite an improvement.  Our buddy George Obradovich, clocked 71.85 mph.

Thank you.

That puts the average back up to 96.52 MPH and brings the number of flyers up to a respectable 20.

Paul,
Do the speeds submitted have to be at a sanctioned (as in AMA) event not just a "gathering"?

No contest required. A gathering is OK.

I would like to see some photos posted, including any possible closest to average or anything over 120 MPH.

Hi Paul!  Hopefully this will do.  You see, I don't have any video of my friend Larry's incredible Perky flight but here he is with his infamous Perky he had just completed a few weeks before he recorded that "record breaking" flight!!   ;D ;D

i flew with this Fig 9 group for a while. (even became a member) they fly every Sat morning and have more fun than is legal. they are mostly sport flyers .with some beginner and intermediate stunt thrown in.if u dont have a good sense of hummer beware.an upright landing could get u a standing ovation.they were not afraid to ask questions.
i did a fig 9 the other day at my new field and brought back a lot of good memories RAD

As of November 15th, the 2023 Perky season is closed.

If you're holding any scores from Nov 15 or earlier, please submit them now.  Any further scores will be credited to the 2024 season.

Thus far we have twenty flyers on record.
