Latest & most current Perky & Fox 35 Speed Rules
« on: September 28, 2017, 11:29:28 AM »
Does anybody have any authoritative knowledge of any changes to Perky or Fox 35 Speed rules since this June?

I plan to submit my events to Brodak soon.

I'm pretty sure the current rules are stable.   TS

I hope so.  I just want to know of any surprises before it's too late.

I'll even pop for a gallon of funny fuel for Fox 35 Speed.

There haven't been any changes to the Fox 35 rules as defined by the Lafayette Esquadrille since Feb 2017. John adjusted the pull test but that is minor and that was in Feb 2017. There has been no reason to change the rules since that time. We define the fuel as 5% but if you want to use 10% just put that on the sanction and state that you are using Lafayette Esquadrille rules but will use the 10% fuel instead.

rather than disallowing ABC / AAC  , consider a sub class.  At checkin, the pilot can  designate if engine is steel liner or other. The entries with ABC/ ACC setup can have their own placing. This way all Perky 's get to enter.

I'm not looking to change the rules.  I just want know if rules will be the same for next years Brodak Fly In.  At this point it seems safe to say 2018 with be the same as 2017, for Perky & Fox 35 Stunt.

Perky continues to grow in both speed & participation.
I think Fox 35 has just about come to the end of the line.  The question of how much you can trick up something you call a Fox 35 Stunt has been answered.

The Fox 35 Rules are stable and are not changing, late last year the rules were clarified so that you couldn't use a rear intake / needle valve setup. If the engine looks like a Fox 35 Stunt we don't get all twisted about what liner, head or needle valve is being used. If the person modified the timing that is also hard to inspect at the flying site. The only inspection we do here in St Louis is a 5 second look to make sure it's not using pressure, it has a front intake with needle valve and that it's a Fox 35 Stunt engine

The only thing to separate out the slower and fast airplanes is to have two classes, Beginner and Expert. Once you fly faster than let's say 80 mph you are flying in the Expert Category. I would agree that the mods to the Fox 35 Stunt are well understood, there is still plenty of life left in the Fox 35 Stunt Speed event. I would propose that you have two average speed awards - one for Perky and another for Fox 35 Speed. the average is really what you are trying for!

Having the Average trophy was part of the original Perky event so I don't understand why it's not offered at the Brodak contest. That way people with slower models can shot for the Average award. I certainly do not try for the top speed.

I'm leaning toward just the usual three places in Fox 35 and Perky.  These events are now all-out professional speed and nobody wants to be average.
I will request three places plus an average award in the Sportsman Class.

As in most Speed events, the contestant may employ a pilot.  To be fair about, the named entry needs to a least take part in the starting and adjustment.
