1/2a proto
« on: September 12, 2023, 08:03:19 AM »
The rules are a little confusing for me for the 1/2 a proto profile. Do you have to run a beam mount engine and seperate tank? Or can a cox with a tank be run. like a black widow? I know its prolly not the quickest engine but maybe get my feet wet. Thanks

I recently asked someone about this as I have one of those goofy Profi 0.8 radial mount with the carb offset 90°. I saw a Cyclon .049 (without pipe obviously) on Henry Nelson's 1/2A Proto a couple weeks ago. The crank centerline and cylinder should still be as the rules require. It looked like a Mouse fuselage with the cylinder on the side. Also pay attention to the fairing rule, can't extend beyond 1/4 chord, which is different than Mouse.

It will be fine. Just side mount the cylinder to be parallel to the wing leading edge outboard.
A short firewall fairing will be OK.
Keep it as light as possible and have fun!!!

Anybody that protests a Cox reed engine in 1/2a proto would have to be the biggest weasle in CL speed.

Since there are tons of these reed valve Cox engines available, cheap, it would be an interesting twist to the event.
