Over the past several years I have been getting some older R/C stand off scale kits
with the hopes of reproducing them for C/L sometime in the future.

They are all of the popular warbirds ie: Corsair, Zero, Me-109, Fw-190, Hellcat, P-39, P-40, P-47 (bubble canopy and razorback), Spitfire, AT-6 and PT-19. I might have one or two more but you get the idea.

These are all in the 40-60 size range, so... my question is...
would anyone be interested in having a Reproduction kit of any of these?

If you do it consider including an electric option in the kit. Except For 1/2a I have built my last slimer.

I might be interested in a short kit, basically the plan and fuselage parts. I cut my own foam wings, I would only basically need the speciality parts for the fuselage, a copy of the plans and enough patterns to cut a foam wing.

Who made the original kit?

They are:

Jemco (all are foam wing kits)
Corsair, Zero, Me-109, Fw-190, Hellcat, P-47 (razorback), AT-6 and PT-19

Top Flite (All built up wings)
P-39, P-40, P-47 (bubble canopy)

Royal (built up wing)
Spitfire

This is for a project "down the road", but I would like the Top Flite P-39 in the future, trike gear, low wing, would make a good scale plane I believe.

Hi Bill,
I have all of the stuff to build a TF P-39 with the Robart P-39 nose gear strut and retract (watch for them on eBay, half the price), and of course it'll be electric so no odd engine parts hanging out of that tiny nose, with train smoke and a sound card, swinging that four bladed Aeroproducts and painted like Cobra II!
Except it'll be R/C.

Hi Bill,
Cobra I was the red and black one, race number 75, flown by Bell X-1 pilot Jack Woolams. It's the one that crashed into Lake Erie right before the '46 Thompson, probably elevator trim tab flutter that Cobra II experienced during testing, and just like Galloping Ghost last year.

Here is a color picture of the Cobra I and Cobra II shortly after they were painted.
Jack Woolams is left and Tex Johnston on the right.
Woolams only went 389 mph with his after Tex went 409, so he returned to Buffalo to have the engine changed at the Bell plant because he thought it had been damaged by detonation and wasn't making max power. He died on the first test flight after the engine change.

What's the pitot probe coming out of the gun port? Better ref. for airspeed? The air inlet appears to be plugged on the Red acft.?

Hi Doug,

The pitot tubes were kind of like the probes on experimental test airplanes for undisturbed positioning. In this case it was double duty, the probes had lead sweated onto the length of it to help balance the airplane after removal of the cannon/ammo/stuff.

The airplanes were built to win the Thompson Trophy and the engines were very well looked after, the carb intakes covered whenever they were shut down to keep out foreign objects.
