My next building project will likely be a Curtiss P-40. I am looking for a set of plans that meets the following criteria;

1. Curtiss P-40 Standoff Scale,
2. Profile fuselage,
3. Wingspan approximate 51 inches,
4. Engines Size 40,
5. Will fly the PA pattern,
6. Meets the requirements for Classic Stunt.

Any suggestions?

try AMA for the full size plans. send me your email address and i'll send a scan of the magazine article. print the plans page. compute the % (ie 300%) that will then be full size. i go to a Kinkos or Office Max to get the drawing printed full size.

I have plenty of P-40 plans that would meet all but tht profile criteria above - the Parrot P-40 is not profile BTW

I do not *THINK* any of those are Profiles, actually. BUT, you can always build a profile from "built up" plans!

The list of criteria makes it a difficult pursuit.

The list Tom Wilk gave is all built-up body models. To be eligible for Classic, changing a built-up body to a profile isn't allowed, UNLESS you can prove someone did that before 1970 - e.g., dated photo, picture in a dated magazine edition or mention in an article in a magazine from the era.

I don't know how easy it would be to find plans, but I think there was a suitable British P-40 profile in T Elmore's collection on-line:

This, if I recall correctly, was about the size of the Vince Micchia designed MidWest profile P-39 and P-51 and Me-109 of te 1970s. Around 400+ sq in, .35 to .40 kits.

Midwest Kitted the P-40 in (at least) their 48" wingspan series. The plans from the kit are full size (since the wing is constant chord!) and available from Tom Dixon, and probably others. Same airfoil as best I can tell as the Mustang, ME-109, P-63, Skyraider, etc..

Don Hutchinsons, profile P-40s meet all your requirements except "Classic". They are moderns designs, and Don's Profiles all fly great. Get your plans direct from Don. dhutch2@sbcglobal.net
