new project, C-47
« on: December 25, 2015, 10:11:48 AM »
My new 1/2A scale project. C-47, 32" wing span, two Brodak .049's hopefully it will come in around under 1 pound. I had AMA's plan department do the scale-up drawings, so I am building it on full size planes, my plans.
I plan on working on this during rehab after my knee replacement surgery the 11th. This may be the only building I do this winter.
Like Fred mentioned in his article, I too will be checking my planes, lines, handle's, radio's, batteries, engines to get them ready for the 2016 season.
More later...............

Blessings

It will be interesting to see how you located the fuel tanks due to the distance from the leading edge to the front of the cowls.

Great subject for a twin

That will be the big hill,to climb. But I do have a plan, I will see how it all works when the new tanks come in.
More later this coming week.

Allen,

I was a passenger in the DC-3's quite frequently back in the mid 60's.

While stationed in KY. I flew the Ozark Airlines many times to get to Millington TN.

Yes, it was all about a girl.  ;D

Nice aircraft to model. Can't wait to see it completed.

Engine, tank, nacelles, stab and rudder in place. Next is the landing gear and rounding the nacelles.
I've got next week to get done what I can, everything will come to a halt next weekend, but I hope to resume work on the 47 mid Feb.
Going to call it quits for today. More tomorrow, (maybe). n~

Blessings

Put it on floats, with the amphibian wheels (C-47C) and you'll have a sure winner!   :)

Neat project Allen, is it a solid wing or...?

Wayne, it is a built up wing, 11 ribs covered  with 1/16.

Fred, here are some pictures of the tank mounting, would you believe magnets? It is a strong secured mount.
Landing gear next, oh boy!

Allen, the dihedral there is soooo scale! Profile massaging looks near scale...albeit a little thin: no mistaking what it is, though!

Nacelles had me wondering, as did fuel tanks. Great solutions. Anxious to see the finish. (landing gear 'exclusively'!)

How far do you go (scale) with a 1/2A scale?
Here I needed a 1 1/4 in wheel but could not find any to fit, so I sanded down a 1 1/2 in wheel to fit the scale C-47. Perfect scale fit to drawings.
I don't think I will scale the landing gear itself. I took a shoot at it and it came out way to heavy for a 1/2A. Plan is to start doping as soon as the landing gear are fixed in place.

Blessings
