Jemco FW 190-D9
« on: August 23, 2006, 03:33:12 PM »
Hi All,

Whilst plundering through my basement, I stumbled across a Jemco FW 190 kit.  It was the "40" size semi scale R/C from about 20 (or more) years ago.

I would really like to build this one up for scale.  Engine??  I will be using 3 line set up as I have several bellcranks and a handle.

I guess it would classify as "Fun Scale". (???)

What do I need in terms of documentation for this project?   The building isn't a worry, but knowing what I REALLY need to have to enter a contest is what I have no clue about.

Thanks!

Bill;
   To start with you will need a three view. Documentation for funscale is not as strict as with the other events, but a three view to show the out line would be helpful. and then for funscale you could use the cover off of a plastic kit to show color and markings, or go the rout with the other events and get some photos of the actual plane.

Bill,
The 190 could be a Sport Scale model. I'm not familiar with it to know whether it is reasonably accurate in outline. Rules for required documentation are in the rule book which is downloadable from the AMA web site. Beyond that I would suggest that you make your documentation easy for the judges to follow and don't confuse them. By this I mean don't do something like show the tail of a 190-A and say "the tail wheel is the same as a D-9." Or "this photo of a Me-109 shows the proper squadron insignia."

Hi guys, new here.... On a side note, I spoke with the guy that used to make these kits indirectly for Jemco/Marks models. He is currently looking into bringing these kits back... It took quite a few emails to convince him that they would sell if he and his partner took on this endeavor.  I had the fw190 years ago and it was awesome.

Welcome, Peter1

I have had this kit for years.  I was doing R/C back then since there was no one to fly C/L with.  I built the basic fuselage, but never have sheeted the wings.

I just need to ge down what is actually done as to the presentation, etc., for the different classes of scale.

Dale Campbell (FAI Scale team member) i a member of our club, but the club is 100 miles away!  I really only get to see him at meets twice a year.

E Bay is the place to start. Look for Profile publications and find the one on the subject. You need to have all the documentation before you start and building. Then you will not have to explain anything away. If it is going to be sport scale a profile pub works very well. The important thing here is documentation first, then build.

I think Charlie Reeves beautiful FW-190D is a Jemco kit. He made it into one of the nicest FW's I have ever seen.
My son flew his Guillows FW-190A at the same Nats as Charlie with his much bigger 190D, and if I look around long enough I could find and post the pics.
