Float Planes - WOW
« on: March 29, 2012, 09:06:29 PM »
I was watching a old Windy video when he was looking at putting a throttle on a stunt plane. He had some video of some guys flying float planes. They had a circle with half a pond. Electrics cubs with video cameras. Very cool stuff.

Never seen a CL float plane.

Vern Clements published the "Sure Fun" in Model Airplane New, Nov. 1957. Google "Vern Clements Sure Fun". The plans and copies of the article are still available. The "Sure Fun" could be flown with floats or a landing gear.

The float pond you mentioned was at the Roseburg, Oregon Airport and we had a float pond and flew CL float planes off the 1/2 circle of water at the NW Regionals. Here are just a few of the models that were flown off the circle.

This was used for almost 4 years and what an incredible experience. I flew a 7' span piper cub, 41" span Grumman Tigercat on floats, and even my camera plane all with electronic controls for throttle control. We had lots of models, even stunt models were flown with floats.

The red white and blue model with no rudder has a 7' wingspan and a four stroke .91 for power

Here are some pictures from the 2001 contest.....!

A few more pictures, some from the 1999 contest.

The Boeing 314 was scratch built by Grant Hiestand with electric power.
