Custom Z-Tech muffler for WACO SRE
« on: May 30, 2008, 04:34:32 AM »
A friend is building a scale SRE and we decided to make the exhaust as realistic as possible, hiding it inside the radial cowling.

On the real aircraft, the exhaust exits via two pipes under the cowl.

As shown in the pictures, the exhaust enters via the center tube - it's connected to the 4-stroke engine with a silicone flex tube.

Fabrication was quite simple. I made it from six separate parts, each machined from 6061 bar stock.

Bob, I can't make it this year. My business has me tied up for that week. I've been working on a three story house that was built back in the 1890's. We have been at it for a year and a half now. Getting close to the finish, then maybe more time to fly. Week days are hard for me to take off..
We'll get together sometime soon I'm sure. Have a great week.

Blessings
Allen

Regarding John Brodak's WACO SRE, I'm happy to report that the new muffler works perfectly. The sound is just right and there is no apparent power loss.  #^ #^ #^

Here is a close-up showing the pipes as they exit.
Also, check out that prop hub.

The other shots show the retractable lights and the marker light in the on position.

Finally a shot of the dash.
