Slow Rat Tank
« on: June 18, 2014, 11:45:23 AM »
How big is your slow rat tank, how many laps can you get per CC.

Thanks,
MM

I guess you didn't do a search on here.   But, with shut offs you can run any size tank you think necessary.   I myself when racing would make a tank big enough that if I had to could run almost a heat without refueling.   Helps when you have a bad needle setting.

You say that like the info is right there. Just did a search, couldn't find it. You say your tank would do 70 laps? Is that with a .25 tuning in the low 15's, how big was it? Sounds like maybe 3 oz. I'm trying to minimize the weight on the nose.

Ok, just measured two of my tanks. One I was racing with last year was 67cc not sure on laps but never had a problem. The new tank is 52cc and I was getting 38 laps in practice with a stock OS25xz but I think the engine was a little rich because it was turning in the high 15's.

Ask Jim Gall what size tank he uses. I've pitted his airplane a few times at the Nat's, but can't remember the capacity. I know for a fact he has enough to go a minimum of 35 laps. Might be around 2oz.

If your talking Super Slow Rat rather than Slow Rat Bill Bishop has the tank issued covered in his post :"New SSR Nearing Completion". I constructed a 2 oz version of the tank he shows in the post and it works great. I get around 48 laps with an FP-25 in my SSR but venturi is stock. Still plenty of endurance for a 100 lap, 2 pitstop race.  8)

I'm talking about the super fast slow rat but, thank you for the information.  As for the Bishop tank I think it's a very good tank for some things.

Wow, Pete. It takes you 2oz to go 48 laps? It should take about 2 cubic inches, or a bit over an ounce, for a SSR. But if you need two ounces, you need two ounces. Who am I to argue?

Probably stunt habits-run too rich. Actual capacity is probably under 2 ounces, I'll get an exact cc mesurement the next time I go out. I know with the original 1.25 ounce tank only got around 35 laps so this one may be closer to 1.5. It was scaled up a bit from the tank shown in your post but not a whole lot. 8)
