IF1 qualifying is complete. Margaret June is in at 213 and change. Smoke from the California fires is affecting visibility.

When I saw the lap speed of the top qualifier I had to check out the airplane. It seems that the David Hoover designed AR-6 named "Endeavor" was designed by a fellow with no Aeronautical, or in fact, no engineering experience at all.

The Aircraft is sleek looking for sure, but likely wouldn't produce a very good profile model for 1/8" scale racing, due to the very small fuselage area ahead of the stab being it's weakest point. Wing mounted LG arrangements have never been very successful in 1/8" Scale Racing either.

Still, very nice looking airplane.

No IF1 racing today due to high winds. Two heats scheduled for Sunday.

Pic shows prop shaft extension on Margaret June, also used by most of the other racers. Length varies from 8" to 12". Margaret June T-shirts are available from the team if you happen to make it to the Reno pit area.

IF1 Heat 1A...

Brand new Shoestring "No Strings Attached" just made it to the races. Didn't have enough time to do the full paint work. Sound familiar?

Air to air shot taken from the cockpit of "Scarlet Screamer".

IF1 Heat 3B...

Last Lap Player team reports that last night's prop change resulted in an increase of 400 rpm and a gain of 13+ mph race average. Accelerated better off the pylons...

Bob, I have sure enjoyed your coverage of the Formula 1 racing. It has always been my favorite event at the air races down through the years. Did you fly out to Reno or drive? Thanks again.  Eric

Eric, Not meaning to disappoint. I only posted the results and pics from IF1's feed on the 'net. BUT...My wife has given the green light to plan a vacation to Reno next year so I'll get to see it in person.

BTW The midgets are my favorite since way back.
