LA 25 Race at Rouge Park, May 20
« on: May 21, 2007, 11:09:15 AM »
This was scheduled for the afternoon of Saturday, May 19th, but slipped to Sunday morning due to a bit of weather.   I guess we could have gutted it out on Saturday, but wwe still ahve all day Sunday and everybody was up for a delay.

We had a nice, clean, professional race, no chaos, no confusion, no conflict, just pit stops and airspeed.

Brad LaPointe has a new Buster with Wayne McDonald as pilot.
John Bryzs entered an original design based on a Czecho-wing with a racing body, flown by Ed.
Wayne McDonald used a Mathes Mongoose III Slow Combat plane, flown by Brad.
I used a "1987" Balsa Beavers' rules Fox Sport racer, "The Swordfish", retrofitted from Fox 35 Stunt to LA 25.

Five Mile Preliminary Races

Paul Smith - 4:13  - 71.1 MPH
Wayne McDonald - 4:33 - 65.9 MPH
John Brzys - 5:07 - 58.6 MPH
Brad LaPointe - 5:33 - 55.4 MPH

Ten Mile Final

1st - McDonald - 10:54 - 55.1 MPH
2nd - Smith - 11:05  - 54.2 MPH
3rd - Brzys - NT (only two pit stops).

I say again, good clean racing, you only need one LA 25 and one airplane - BRING IT!

Note: the Fox-powered Lightning Streak was flown in practice for comparision aganist the LA's. It did not race.

Note 2: When you see something Soybean Green, you don't need to ask whose it is.

Note 3: I, for one, like the freedom of airframe design.  With all stock LA 25's for power, you need some variety.  Wing area and drag don't amount to much at 75 MPH on 60-lines with a 25.
