Easter International Classic Team Race Postal Contest
« on: March 14, 2013, 04:38:39 AM »
Here it is, get yourselves ready! In just a few weeks it's the...

Easter International Classic Team Race Postal Contest

Classic Team Race replicates FAI Team Racing as it was in the 1960s and can be flown over grass or paved circles. This is an international postal Classic Team Race event whereby people competing in different countries can compare race results, have fun and advance the sport of Classic Team Race. Entries will be accepted from any country, not just the three whose Classic TR rules are represented here.

Contest Rules:

~ Entrants may fly in and submit results from the suggested contest events below, or arrange their own local club races within the time period defined below.

~ Models shall conform to the Classic Team Race rules of the local event they have entered, which may include:

  • Australian Classic FAI (Pending MAAA approval) LINK
  • Barton MAC Classic 15  (To current club rules) LINK
  • New Zealand Classic FAI (Allows for Classic A models) LINK
  • International Classic Team Race rules - TBA

~ NB - no mixing and matching of rules from different countries. Choose your set and stick to it.

Dates: Any day between 29th March and 8th April, 2013.

Suggested venues:
NZ - Taranaki Champs, New Plymouth. 29-31 March, 2013
NZ - South Canterbury MAC, Easter Weekend
Australia - Victoria State Champs. 29-30 March, 2013
UK - Barton MAC Classic TR Day. 7th April, 2013
Anywhere - Your local club!
Others added on request - please suggest some.

Race Coverage: Please take the opportunity to take lots of pictures and videos of your Classic TR events for this forum, the Barton Forum, Aeromodeller, ACLN and general promotion of Classic Team Race. Photos and video are not compulsory, but are highly recommended!

1/2/3-up Handicap: In order to allow participation of teams in locations where there aren't other teams to race against, a handicap will apply to heats with less than three entrants. The handicap will be applied in the overall results table, not during a race or on submission of the results. Finals must have 3 entrants.

  • 3-up races - no penalty
  • 2-up races - 5 seconds
  • 1-up (time trials) - 10 seconds

Results Submission: Results (best heat for each entrant and final, for those who qualify at each contest), photos and video links can be emailed to me (ashcustomworks at gmail.com) or posted on the Barton Forum. The deadline for results is the 10th of April, 2013.

Results Tabulation: The best heat time for each team will be recorded and determine places from fourth downwards. The top three places will be determined by the fastest three 200 lap final times from those teams who qualify for their local contest finals. Awards will be made to the top heat time in each country and the top three finalists overall.

------------------

If anyone wants to donate some kind of prize or reward for the victors, please do! I will print and post certificates for the top heat time for each country represented and the top three finalists.

I know you guys in the USA and Canada don't have any Classic FAI TR racing going on, but here's a great chance to see if you like he idea for next year. If you have any old (really old!) F2C models with a seperate wing and tailplane and an old Super Tigre or ETA up front, drag it out and see what it can still do!

The Australian Classic FAI rules are the most comprehensive, so take a look at those as a starting point if you're keen to join in with your own variant on the Classic TR theme.

Please feel free to share this on other forums, NCLRA, Delphi or your club websites and newsletters!  H^^

We made it to the grand unveiling of the final results table for the inaugural Easter Classic team Race Postal Contest.

The full table can be viewed here in spreadsheet form: http://bit.ly/ZM7rqy

And here it is in image form:

Bigger image versions: http://bit.ly/12FXP8C

~ Grandest congratulations to Fitzgerald/Stein for their winning time of 9:27. A time that would have placed them third in both '60s World Champs that featured 200 lap finals.

~ Congrats also to Eyre/Needham for a scorching performance from the old Super Tigre to nab second place overall and Best Classic Engine.

~ Some amazing fastest heat times from each country and very close once handicaps were applied: Nugent/Ellins, Langworth/Broadhead and Robinson/Brown - see the results above. It's very interesting to see how close those times were to the World Record that stood from 1964 to 1970. Surely some mark of authenticity of the performances from recent World Champions and other racers of the highest calibre.

~ Well done to Australia for the well executed Team victory.

~ Let's do it all again next year! Maybe we can encourage entrants from the USA, Brazil, South Africa, Singapore and throughout Europe.

PS - feel free to share the results tables around, publish in your newsletters and magazines, other forums, translate to other languages etc.
