Clown & LA 25 Racing at Rouge Park, September 12, 2009 - RESULTS
« on: September 09, 2009, 05:47:30 AM »
Long a week after the F2D TT, we're back.

LA 25 Sport Race, the usual Toronto Balsa Beavers rules.  If we have 6 entries or less, we'll go direct to the 140-lap finals.  7 or more, there will be 70-lap qualifying for a 3-up final.

Clown Race.  Brodak rules.
In addition to the Clown and Circus Prince, we will allow other similar sport planes if they don't have an advantage over the regular planes.  Same deal with engines, LA15 or similar low end plain bearing 15's.  This slack will continue only until somebody tries to seriously beat the system.

No speed (Perky & F40) this time.  After the TT enough is enough.

Only six days after the TT you might expect a small turnout and that's exactly what we got.  But we had nice weather and it was a nice small day of flying.

Several of us who sat out the TT used the chance release some pent up competativness, including Job Brzys, Ken Towers, Don Sopka, and myself.

Ron Colombo unfortunately took yet another injury to his right arm this week and was unable to repeat his 1983 TT feat of winning left-handed.

LA 25 Sport Race

We used the small turnout to get some new and/or seldom-used pilots and mechanics into action.  140 laps with 3 pit stops

1st - Jon Brzys flown by Ken Towers - 12:58
2nd - Ken Towers flown by Paul Smith - 13:13
3rd - Paul Smith flown by Don Sopka 121 laps

Life was good for the Brzys team.  Ken Towers found out the disadvantage of a left-handed pit man.  The 15 seconds was lost several times over trying to climb over the wing to launch the plane.  My 40-year-old Yak Streak made it's last and final flight.  The fuselage broke of its own momentum on the first pit stop, then a Hot Stuff repair failed with 19 laps to go, putting it out of its misery for good.

Clown Racing - Brodak Rules

Most laps in seven and a half minutes.

Paul Smith flown by Jon Brzys - 120 laps
Jon Brzys flown by Ken Towers - 40 laps.

Jon's engine wasn't too happy, but what the hey, he already won three out four events (and piloted the fourth).   He earned it after working the Team Trials.  120 laps was exactly what it did at The Brodak, which was 4 fewer than it needed.

Mark Warwashana was back on the job after CDing the TT, working all day, cept when he pitted Colombo.
