Classic B team plans ?
« on: December 01, 2011, 03:22:44 PM »
Hi ,

Does anyone know where I might be able to purchase Classic B team racer plans ?

I've gone to RC Universe and found a few I was looking for , but I'd like to get my hands on a set of "Quest" plans (not in Spanish, though).

Thanks ,

Rob K.

The only Quest plan (PDF file) that I have has Spanish texts. It isn't all that many words.

balsa = balsa
bronze = bronze or brass
chapa = sheet
terciado = plywood
acero = steel
...

I've been posting Racer plans and pictures on rcgroups. There's some Class B plans there too.

Thomas Wilk has lots of material on his CDs. I don't have a list of what exactly he has.
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

Double Dice   V-B-TR   unknown   29.50   125.25   .29   Derwal, P. & Taylor, C. & McNess J.
I have a scan of a Double Dice plan, "drawn from the original model" in 1988. It has the signatures of John McNess and Chas Taylor, certifying that it is accurate and:

"We can confirm that the design originated in 1955"

The Crescendo plan I have is a scan from Model News, February 1961

The Dalesman was published in Aeromodeller in 1960, but apparently flew from about 1958.
I built a Blue Pants as a kid. Wish I still had it. Might even learn to fly it.

Dave Shrum advertised kits of the "Able Mable" and the Veco "Redskin" on the Flyinglines (dot) org newsletter if you want to go that route.  8)

I am pretty sure Dave no longer makes anymore kits.  I asked many months ago and said he stoped making them.  I am in contant contact with him and he made no mention of kits. I finished and painted an Ole Slipery that he built. Repaired his Ablel Mable and now mine and need to finish covering/ painting his Challenger.  I also have a Firecracker kit he made for B-Team race.  The vast majority of UC flyers are solely stunt.  Nothing wrong about stunt just makes other UC with mostly nobody to share interest with. Combat/ racing/ Carrier darn near dead down here. [Tucson]

Thanks for the update Dan. My info was from the NW C/L on-line newsletter "Flite-Lines". There is still an advertisment for those kits there...including a picture. I was considering of ordering one myself but as always, you snooze, you lose.  8)

I just google Berkley team racers and came up with an AMA history on Berkley and Bill Effinger. This is a great read on model history. Effinger used many experts of the day to contribute to his kit designs, in addition to his own talents. Keith Story. team race expert designed  both the "Key" and the "Quest" which became Berkley kits.

Hi, guys. For FREE plans, (B Team Race, et al) go to this site. Do a search, or scroll down...one of the last pages has 'em ALL.

HPA - Builders' Plan Gallery

Gentlemen:

Here is the site of sites for plans. It is a free site; registration is relatively easy, with a name and password. Once in, just click on 'Builders' Plan Gallery, in the top bar.
All they ask is for occasional posting of some of your plans in trade...any plans, rubber, R/C, etc.

The plans thumbnailed can be enlarged to 8.5" X 11", and printed on your printer...clever guys can probably take a shortcut? Over my head, some of this cyber stuff.

Omit the  '<'  and '>' in the addy below. Please report back with degree of success.

I don't recall it being all that hard to get access to Hippocket Forum and Plans Gallery. But it has been a while, or maybe I was lucky.

Maybe a message to the powers-that-be at HPA (Ratz and Sundance12) could fix it?

.-.-.-.-.-.-.
This thread got started from the "Quest". There's a fairly recent redrawn plan at
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1530258&page=8
... along with lots of other TR material.
