2012 F2C Team Selection
Finals Hosting Bids

The F2C Team Selection Program for the 2012 World Championships is underway. The program requires prospective teams to participate in “local” contests over the approximate 18-20 month period preceding the Team Selection Finals. In order to fly at the Finals, a Team must have participated in a number of local contest and have turned race times. The F2C team is selected, however, solely by their performance at the Finals contest.

The finals must be run by the fall of 2011. There is no set date for the finals but depend instead upon the availability of a club or individuals to host the contest. This note is being published here and will later be on the various internet CL forums to ask for any interested clubs or individuals to put in an offer to host the Finals.

There are requirements that a hosting offer must meet.

1. The site must be specified. A site for the F2C Finals must have one circle adequate for flying F2C. It must be at least 150' in diameter, paved and smooth. Circles appropriate for the F2C event must be painted on the pavement. (This is often done by members in the F2C community and need not be of concern to the host.) If a temporary paved area is utilized, adequate temporary circle markings are allowed. A second circle for practice flights must be available and must be nearby. It, too, must be paved and smooth.

2. Dates for holding the contest must be specified. They must be no earlier than the conclusion of the U.S. CL NATs nor later than mid-October.

3. The Contest Director must be named. The source of helpers (timers, pit boss, etc.) must be identified.

4. Description of local community infrastructure must be provided, I.e., motels, restaurants, RV camping, etc.

If more than one offer is made, the site will be selected by the F2C Team Selection Committee. The contest director of the selected offer will work closely with the Team Selection Committee chairman to define the F2C Panel of Judges and the single FAI Jurist. All Finals hosting offers should be sent to the F2C Team Selection Committee Chairman by December 15, 2010:

Bill Lee has informed me that the 2012 F2C, Team racing, Team Trials have been awarded to the Metrolina Control line Society.
The event will be held on Sept, 3rd & 4th at our field, Waymer Flying field in Huntersville, NC.
Bob Whitney and Bill Lee asked me to consider biding on this event when we were at the F2C contest in Stark, FL where I volentered as a lap counter/Timer.
After a brief discussion at the Nov. MCLS meeting we decided to submit a bid to host the event.
This is quite an honor for our club and I thank Bill and the selection committee for selecting our bid.

The Team Selection is over now. The Huntersville guys did a bang-up job hosting us. A nice site, well prepared.

The team consists of

Fluker/Lambert
Albritton/Perkins
Fischer/Wilk

with Allen/Whitney as the alternate.

On behalf of the F2C community and the F2C Team Selection Committee, thanks to the Huntersville folks for their fine effort.

High Gang.

MetroLina Control Line Society hosted the F2C (Team Race) Team Trails this Saturday and Sunday down at the Huntersvilles NC flying site. Jimmy Welch and I went down to help out where we could. It takes a bunch of man power to put on one of these events. Out of respect to the Metrolina gang we felt like that it was the least we could do. It was an honor for us to be trusted to help out on a very important control line event. Plus we got to see world class control line flying up close. This was a great event.

Sonny, Gene and Watt organized what needed to be done early Saturday morning, These three gentlemen are the best you ever want to work for.

John Tate

Thank you MCLS members who contributed your time and effort.
Thank you John and Jimmy for your support. It helped make this event a success for the FAI officials and competitors.

We just returned from the USA F2C Team Trials finals held at Waymer Field near Huntersville, North Carolina. These good folks were excellent hosts! They made us feel at home, giving us every chance to be competitive. They were well organized and had some great help.  We got to visit with a few people we had met before—and others that we knew by reputation (internet modeling is a great thing) and finally got to meet in person.

We had help with shipping our fuel, early/late access to the field, and help during the contest, too. The ready box crew was ever ready and patient! (How many times did they have to track down those racing vests?) The timers were great, and we felt confident that they really nailed the times. We were initially surprised that the timers moved each race, but once we figured out that they were assigned a single color for the day, that seemed very smart. That kind of detail was seen throughout the event and distinguished this Team Trials.

The field was very suitable for this event, and I am glad they were willing to share it by hosting the F2C Team Finals. I also apologize for putting a divot in their fine circle, and for any remaining balsa debris.

Our heartfelt thanks to all those who contributed to hosting this event,

Dave “McSlow” Hull and Lenard Ascher
