BIG PT 17 Survey
« on: March 31, 2011, 05:06:20 PM »
I am looking at designing a  PT 17 larger than the 301 square inch airplane that will ship to the prototype builder on Saturday. Which would you be most likely to buy? 44" wingspan 560 square inches for .35 to .40, or 48 3/4" wingspan 677 square inches for .45 to .60?

Thanks,  Pat

Pat,
For some bigger is always better. For Bipes I think that it surely doesn't hurt.the deciding factors are cost and market for the item. For serious stunt work, obviously not, and I don't know weather a sport 60 profile model would be popular. So that said 35/40 sized models are really the mainstay of the hobby.

I'd prefer the 560 sq wing. There is more than enough wing area and less drag.  This my third favorite biplane, right behind the F4B4 and F3F-3 Navy fighters. H^^

I'd kind of like to have a yellow pearl.

Gordon,
I will sell you 3 full size .pdf files for the 1/8 scale airplane for $3.00. They are 36" X 54", they have all parts full size. They are basically the 32 1/4" span airplane scaled up 1 1/2 times. I will not be doing a set of finished plans for the 1/8 scale airplane anytime in the forseeable future. The material thicknesses have not been re-designed, the airplane will need about 1 1/2 times as many ribs as shown.

Thanks,  Pat
