What happened to Brodak dope selection??
« on: November 01, 2008, 05:01:21 AM »
Perhaps I missed the announcement, but it looks like Brodak is getting out of the business of selling dope.
I was planning on replenishing my supply when I looked at their on line catalog and found that most of
the dope products are pulled. Anyone know why?? Is Sig the only other place to buy dope??  How long will they last??

It appears that Randolph and Consolidated dopes are readily available. See:

http://www.wicksaircraft.com/Wicks/Pages/HUGE_PAINT_SALE.php
http://www.airsuppliers.com/Aircraft_Parts_Catalog/RANDOLPH-FOR_AIRCRAFT.htm

And a brand with which I was/am completely unfamiliar:

http://www.superflite.com/cms/superflite/SystemI/kits.php

Try your local General Aviation Airport.

Tom,
It looks as though they have hidden the info; check this link:

http://www.brodak.com/shop_search.php?productsearch=brodak+dope

Click on the item you are interested in and more info appears.........

Have you found a color chart for Brodak dope online?  ??? Steve

Edit: Found a color chart on their site. Several colors don't look anything like the name would lead us to believe! "Sunburst Orange" for example...

Steve,

There was a color chart on the site until the recent changes----don't see it now.  Not sure how accurate it was when it was there.

I did get a separate chart with color chips with my latest catalog; you might call for one.

What has happened to dope prices? $7.00 and up for the small bottles is way out of line for me. (Retired on fixed income) Fortunately, I can get quarts of Randolph near home. Will have more on this subject as soon as I finish painting the present project, now applying the final trim colors to same.

Actually, Brodak's price for a pint (16 ounces) is competative with airport prices for Randolph by the quart, and you can get two different colours for the same money.

It appears that you are correct. You can't find the dope listing from their web site very easily.

FWIW, I've been to the Brodak website many times, and never found it easy to navigate. Others are much better. I kinda like Hobby People's site. Better than Tower's in some ways. I'd like to see Randy Smith adding new product and new plans/kit plane pictures and/or 3-views to his site and some reorganizing, too. I think it's a very important sales tool, but seldom kept up to date, much less improved. Adding new products takes extra effort, but should make a big difference in sales. Ok, so I almost got a degree in Biz Administration. Phew...that was a close call!  :P Steve

As much benefit as a web site is/can be to a business, it is amazing that some of them are so user un-friendly.

Maybe they just have so much info that they haven't found a good way to present it within the available bandwidth.

Randy has lots of stuff that isn't shown on his site, and is working on a catalog update.  Hope the new catalog has lots of three views.......
